The Oven Igniter is an OEM part for Whirlpool ovens responsible for igniting the gas burner that heats the oven. It works by drawing electrical current through the igniter filament, heating it to a high temperature until it glows and ignites the gas to start the cooking process.

Symptoms of a failing Oven Igniter include:

  • Oven not heating up at all
  • Igniter glowing without igniting the gas
  • Weak flame or delayed ignition
  • Increased gas smell

Causes of a bad Oven Igniter can range from normal wear and tear, which reduces the igniter's efficiency over time, to physical damage or a buildup of dirt and grease that can interfere with its operation. A malfunctioning igniter can lead to uneven cooking, wasted gas, and in some cases, safety hazards due to the accumulation of gas without ignition.

This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

Len, You may want to try a couple of these 12400035, with all the extrs connectors, wire nuts and insert, they're pretty much a "universal" fit. Since most "flat" type igniters are rated at 3.2 to 3.6 amps they should work in your range. The model number you supplied is not correct, so that's about the best we can do, for now. Thanks

Duque, It sounds like you may have two issues, a weak igniter W10918546 and or a faulty gas pressure regulator W10624131 Start by replacing the igniter, it's the more likely issue, and it is an easy repair, and something you can do. Remove the oven door, remove the oven bottom panel, remove the flame spreader, and you'll have access to the igniter and can replace it.

Bruce, The F2 code on your range indicates a failure in the control WPW10335164, But, you may want to check or replace the oven sensor first WPW10181986. Hello Jeff, This has to be a bad gas valve WP98014893. If it were anything else, the thermostats would have kicked it off. If the valve is stuck open, when the thermostats are open so the valve would normally close, it has to be still open.

Joyce L. for Model Number Tappan TGF336AUG

My oven takes a long time to light when it does light, I smell gas sometimes, I can take a wooden spoon and tap on the tube above the safety valve and it will start. When it gets to that temp and shuts off it will not restart unless I tap it again it seems as though it takes a long time to preheat when I do get it to light. I removed the safety valve and cleaned it put it back in and it worked good for a while then it started the same thing again what does it sound like to you, Thanks.

Hello Joyce, You need to replace that safety valve 5304521339. The manufacturer doesn't even want qualified technicians tampering with it as it creates a gas leak, fire, burn, and explosion hazard.
