Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Dishwasher Air Inlet (Part Number: OEM18036849)

1 Answer

Nancy, You will want to check the units spray arms to makes sure that they are not clogged or cracked. If they are, this could cause a ripple effect that would allow the unit to leak from the area you are referring to. The switch could not make it leak. The only other way that it would leak from this area is if the float has gotten water in it and it is allowing the water to fill a little too high.

John, The food ending up in the air gap, also known as beaching, is caused by 1 of 2 things. 1. Too much detergent usage. You want to make sure that you are using the correct amount of detergent per grains of hardness of water. 2. Water not hot enough to activate detergent. You have to make sure that the water temp in the tub after the first fill is at least 120 degrees. You also want to make sure that you are purging the water line before starting dishwasher. Run the water at the sink til it is at its hottest point then turn on dishwasher.

Bill for Model Number 66513853K602

I have a Kenmore Elite model 66513853K602 5 1/2 years old. It was installed by Sears in a new home. I checked the dishwasher with a level and is perfect. As a few others have reported, I had pieces of a plastic strip (soft & somewhat flexible) drop off under the dishwasher door. It was a short time after that we started getting a leak at both corners of the door. I checked the float switch and it moves freely. Next, I released the door springs & removed the door. I looked closely at the rubber door seal and it seems fully intact with no nicks. The air inlet piece also seems to be in good condition (no nicks or cracks). What is the function of the flexible plastic strip and what is procedure to remove & replace if it is functional in sealing water? What is part number?

1 Answer

Hello Bill, The plastic strip is the air vent WP8268937. This will have the rubber gasket on it to keep water from coming out of corners. To replace you will open door and remove the screws holding in the inner panel. The air vent is screwed at the bottom of door.

Earl, Your water level is a bit high, When properly filled the water level should at least touch the bottom of the element, and no more than half way up at it's highest level. Your first check should be the float WP8268895 it needs to move freely up and down. Check the float shaft for grease and detergent build up, and the switch mount has not been disturbed or dislodged 8193506. If all's Ok, unlatch the door several times while the machine is filling and make sure the valve stops filling immediately, you may have a "sticky" fill valve. Thanks and Good Luck

Hi Roger. The Lower door seal kit is part # 4172127. This is the part that has 2-seperate hard rubber blocks that go inside the front outer corners to help seal with the door seal strip included in the kit. Is the unit level front to back, and side to side? Make sure that all 4- legs touch the floor. Thank you.

Hello Art. Is the unit level side to side and front to back? Is the unit over filling above the element? Check the float stem to see if it is properly placed in the switch below. Is the door seal ripped or nicked on the RT. side? Let the washer start in a reg. wash and then open the door slowly (as not to fling any water out) and see if you can spot the door seal leaking. The door seal is part # W11196317. These are a couple more things to check. The air inlet may be defective as you inclined. This part # is WP8268937. Thank you.
