The Drawer Gear Kit is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators. This kit is designed to repair or replace the gear system that operates the sliding or rolling mechanism of a refrigerator drawer. It includes all necessary gears and components to ensure smooth operation of the drawer, allowing for easy access to fruits, vegetables, meats, or other items stored inside.

Causes for replacement can vary, including wear and tear from regular use, damage from overloading the drawer, or accidental breakage. Over time, the gears can wear down, lose teeth, or become misaligned, leading to poor drawer performance.

Symptoms of a bad Drawer Gear Kit include:

  • The drawer is difficult to open or close
  • A grinding or clicking noise when the drawer is moved
  • The drawer sticks or jams during operation

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Hello LCS, the repair procedure video is correct unfortunately what was missed is that the shipping rivet has already been removed. The freezer door is held by two 'T' shaped brackets that sit in the telescoping rails, just in a few inches is a 1/8" aluminum pop rivet, one on each side, they are for shipping only and can be removed by drilling out with a 1/8" drill bit, they do not need to be replaced.

Jake, anytime you have frost inside the freezer like what you have described, there is air leak, try re-setting the latches on both sides, there should be a white button back on the rails that can be tripped, once that is done, push the door closed and make sure it is closing flush and square to the cabinet.

Hello Ton, The metal bar and gears are necessary to make the door open and close evenly. Without it the door cannot operate properly and there will be an air leak which causes not only cooling problems but also frost accumulations.

John, If or when you can try to determine how many days it takes to happen, or when it does happen, check check the right rear shelf track for ice developing on the track or slide. In the mean time, you could also check and make sure the freezer drawer is closing and sealing properly all around the opening, especially the right side.

Tim, To change the gear kit you would pull out the lower drawer and remove the upper shelf. Once remove you will use a flat blade screwdriver and pop the gear off the rail on both sides. This will allow you to remove the gear and install the new ones. Make sure that you line the gears up to the gears on the slide properly or it will hang up.

Rick, Once you have the drawer out, look at the back of the rail and there will be a hole that you put a small screwdriver in to push a clip that holds the rail in place. When you push in on it you will then pull out on the rail at the same time. It should slide forward slightly, remove the screwdriver and pull the rail the rest of the way out. Install the new rail.
