  • Leaks or water seeping out from around the door area
  • Visible signs of wear, damage, or cracks on the latch mechanism
  • The door not staying securely closed during operation

Causes of a faulty dishwasher door latch assembly can include normal wear and tear over time, physical damage due to impact or mishandling, or issues with the latch mechanism itself.

Sheila, We would reccomend you replace the latch assembly WPW10130695, it is a complete assembly and preassembled in the factory. Also check and make sure the door strike WP99002644, mounted in the center of the door opening at the top of the tub, is not loose or broken. To access and replace the door latch, you will need to remove power to the dishwasher, then remove the "plastic" inner door liner. remove the latch, install the replacement assembly and reverse the procedure.

Jonathan, To unplug the wires front the you would just pull them straight off. You may need to use needle nose pliers to get them released. If you are referring to a locked door that will not open then you would need to grab the upper corners of the door and lift and pull straight out.

Gary, If the unit latches but does not power on then you will want to check the door switches for continuity. If there is not continuity when latched then the door switches are bad. If there is continuity then you will want to test the control board to see if it is getting 120 vac to it. If the control is getting power and there are no lights on the control panel then the most likely cause is a bad control panel.

I have owned this dishwasher for about 18 mos. I recently had it repaired by Affordable Appliance Repair in Sacramento, CA. They charged me $128.55 to replace a thermal fuse. Less than 2 mos later my dishwasher doesn't work. We paid around $500 for this unit 18 mos ago and now it doesn't work again. The symptoms are the same. Nothing happens when you push the buttons. Can you give me sound advice as to where to go from here. I don't want to pay lot of money and have a dishwasher that doesn't work two months from now.

Hello Skip, The thermal fuse is opened by temperature generated by excessive current flow. This fuse will never just fail with no reason. If it fails, something caused it to fail. I would start at the wire nuts that connect the unit to the power supply in the power connection box behind the kick panel. If the wire nuts are ok, the wiring diagram is behind the kick panel and should be used with a test meter to ohm out the motor windings.

I am replacing the door latch assembly. The small switches that are locked into place (and easily removed via the plastic tabs holding them into place) are connected via metal prongs to the power supply. Several posts have suggested inserting a small screwdriver or using pliers to remove, but that metal will not release. Is there a trick to removing them (other than pulling with all my might)? I'm worried I'll break the female end which is connected to the dishwasher. If it requires a small screwdriver, is there a place to stick one to release the hold on the switch?

1 Answer

MC, You would only be able to put the edge of the screwdriver on the female terminal and use force to remove it other than pulling them off by hand.
