The Door Latch Assembly is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool dishwashers. It is responsible for securely latching and locking the dishwasher door during operation, preventing leaks and ensuring a proper seal.

Symptoms of needing to replace the door latch assembly include:

  • Difficulty in properly closing or latching the dishwasher door
  • Leaks or water seeping out from around the door area
  • Visible signs of wear, damage, or cracks on the latch mechanism
  • The door not staying securely closed during operation

Causes of a faulty dishwasher door latch assembly can include normal wear and tear over time, physical damage due to impact or mishandling, or issues with the latch mechanism itself.

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore dishwasher models.

For Whirlpool Door Latch Handle (Blk) (Part Number: OEM18046359)

Becky for Model Number MDB7600AWW

I need just the handle #99002579. I've bought several latches from you folks (yes, I've got THAT model, the one that breaks it's latch about every year and a half). But this time, only the handle broke. I bought two latches last time so I already have the extra latch. But the latches don't (or didn't) come with handles so I need JUST the handle. Do you sell just the handle? I don't need an extra latch, I still have an extra from my last order.

Becky, Unfortunately the manufacturer has mad the handle as part of the door latch assembly and is no longer available as a separate part. You will need to get the door latch assembly WPW10130695.

Janice, The only way to possibly get the door open would be to grab the door on either side and lift and pull at the same time.

The door handle broke and the door handle tabs on the control panel were broke. I replaced both the control panel and latch assembly with handle. The handle/latch assembly, however, pops out of the tabs on on the control panel when it is screwed down. The door still opens and closes and it works, but you have have to press in on the door once closed which I suspect is due to not being in the tabs so its not locking properly. How to I know the latch is in the right position (open/closed) when installing so that it also sits in the control panel tabs?

1 Answer

Hello Don. As long as the holes in the latch assembly have the screws securing them, then it should be fine. If the screws are in there, it aligns the latch properly.

Rich for Model Number MDBH945AWS

I removed the back face to inspect and locate the broken latch. I ordered a new one which arrived yesterday. While waiting for the part I reinstalled the back face and when we ran it through a wash cycle the dishwasher made a grinding noise. I replaced the handle/ switch yesterday evening and with the panel off inspected inside but couldn't find anything suspicious. I then reinstalled the back panel and ran it through another wash cycle. The noise is still there. Handle works fine. Solution?

1 Answer

Hello Rich. Check for something in the chopper on the unit and the impeller on the unit. It could cause the grinding noise on the unit.

Hello Paul, We apologize for our compatibility tool. It is still in work and is still not recognizing all model/part numbers so at this time it should be disregarded. WPW10130695 should work as per the manufacturer.
