Causes for a bad door latch can include wear and tear of moving parts over time exposing them to high heat, improper cleaning allowing residue to build up and corrode components, or physical damage like bending from excessive force on the door.

Symptoms of a door latch issue include:

  • Inability to fully close the range door
  • Sagging or loose door that does not feel secure during baking and broiling
  • Door that will not safely stay shut on its own

This is a genuine Whirlpool OEM replacement this part is also compatible with Maytag, Jenn-Air and some Kenmore models.

How do I unlock the oven door after the control board burned out half way through cleaning. Door is still locked preventing me from getting to the screws to replace the control board which I've purchased. Called Whirlpool and they told me they don't have any secondary way to open the door. That seems pretty foolish, that the engineers didn't plan a way to unlock the door manually. Please tell me they're wrong and there is a way to do this. I shouldn't have to pay to have a serviceman come out when I have the parts and know how to install them (done it before). Thanks

Hello Josh, This dishwasher is programmed with a service mode to aid the technician in troubleshooting the dishwasher. Each component may be cycled to detect if it is functioning correctly. Components are cycled by pressing keypads to the right or left of the start/reset keypad. If you pull the tech sheet from behind the kick panel, it will explain how to use this method to troubleshoot the unit.

Tom for Model Number Whirlpool Double Oven RBD306PDB14

I have Whirlpool Double Oven RBD306PDB14. I had a problem with the display (blank), after replacing the control board I was able to set and see the time but after about 30 seconds I see the codes F5 E1 on the display. I am told that it is a latch problem. What part(s) do I need to fix the problem? Anything I can check before I order the part? Also, it is a double oven, how do I know if it is the Upper or Lower oven? Thanks for your help.

Hello Tom. 1. Check the latch assembly: latch arm pivot joint, arm/motor connection, plunger and hook springs. 2. Check the Latch Motor: - Check for firm electrical connections. - Disconnect the two wires from the motor and measure the resistance of the motor. The resistance should be approx. 2450O. If the motor is open (8O) or shorted (0O), it should be replaced. 3. Check the Latch Switch. Disconnect it and use a continuity tester: - Door latched = switch closed, continuity should read 0O. - Door unlatched = switch open, continuity should read 8O. 4. Check Door Open/Closed Switch. Disconnect it and use a continuity tester: - Door open = switch open, continuity should read 8O. - Door closed = switch closed, continuity should read 0O. 5. Check Sister Board. - Check connections, latch motor – sister board. - Replace sister board. 6. Check power and element connections. 7. Replace control.

Troy C for Model Number RBD305PDS15

SERIAL # XS4500739 Hi, I have recently replaced the main control board, and the front control panel following the error codes in the manufacturers service manual for this Whirlpool double oven. The ribbon cable would not seat so this is why I replaced the control panel. After installing these I got the error "door" and the oven will not heat up. I then bought a new door switch P/N - W10195934 and installed it. I am still getting "door" error on the panel and no other error codes. The only other indication something is wrong is both lights are on and cannot be turned off by control panel. The service manual shows the lights run through the sister board but I am at a loss after replacing every other part and need some experienced help please. Please let me know what to do now. Thank you, Troy

Hello Troy. Go back and check all connections on the board and make sure they are good and nothing is loose. It sounds like a wiring issue.

Lorraine, You will want to make sure that the door is closing all the way. Check to make sure that the connection for the membrane switch is a firm connection. You will also want to check when you put the unit into bake or broil that you are getting 240 vac across the L1 to Bake or L1 to broil when in broil. If you are then your control board would be the issue and need to be replaced.

Caryn, You may want to try to push in on the door light switch and see if you can get the door latch to open. If not then you will want to have someone help you by holding the door switch and pulling out a little on the latch and try to reset. If this does not work then you may need a new motor latch motor.
