The Lower Door Seal Kit is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers. It is designed to create a watertight seal along the bottom of the dishwasher door, preventing leaks during the wash cycle. The kit comprises a main bottom seal, two corner seals, and installation instructions. The main seal measures approximately 22 inches x 1/2 inch.

You should replace this lower door seal kit if it becomes worn or damaged. Causes of a bad door seal can include deterioration from age, damage from repeated door closures, or buildup of grime and debris that compromise the seal's integrity.

Symptoms of a bad lower door seal include:

  • Water leaking from the bottom of the dishwasher door
  • Visible cracks or wear on the seal
  • The dishwasher door not closing properly
  • Increased humidity or water damage around the dishwasher area

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

For Whirlpool Lower Door Seal Kit (Part Number: OEM9308970)

John, It appears that the lower door seal will be part of the baffle WP4161295 which unfortunately has been discontinued by the manufacturer with no suitable replacement available.

Water leaking from bottom of door on a Kenmore Elite Model #6651598990. Bought Lower Door Seal Kit. Remove old bottom seal was replace with new one. The new one did not snap snugly on lower door. Ran dishwasher thru cycle with no leaks. I thought I was done. I opened door later and the new bottom seal was laying in bottom of washer. In trying to put new bottom seal back on the hole gasket fell in into the door opening and I can't get it out. Put on old door seal which snapped on better. Ran washer and old seal leaked. How did I get new seal from behind the door? Is this the right bottom seal? Part # 3102987 Also, I chose not to replace the corner seats because they were in good shape. FYI . No directions came with kit as advertised but video was very helpful. Appreciate any thoughts. Jim

Jim, You did get the correct lower door seal and to get it out from between the doors just remove the inner screws on the door and lift the inner door liner.

Mark, This issue will most likely be with the lower door seal even though the seal may look good it could be faulty.

My dishwasher is leaking at the door, primarily lower left spot. When I look at your video for replacing the lower seal, my dishwasher does NOT have a gasket along the bottom inside of the door. It has what looks like a small 1/4 inch strip of stainless steel, but NO gasket. Behind this stainless steel strip there is a rather large void running along the entire inside bottom of the door. This void measures about 1/2 inch. You can place your finger in this void. It appears that this stainless steel strip merely sits against the inside of the tub, when the door is closed, but again NO gasket. The gasket for the inside of the door itself looks exactly like your door gasket. The dishwasher is 25 years old and has been a wonderful product.

Ray, You will want to install the other 2 pieces that came in the kit. These should keep the unit from leaking.

My dishwasher was leaking water from the bottom of the door so I replaced the rubber seal that goes around the door and the lower door seal with 4172127. Because the lower door seal kit is obviously defective, based on previous complaints, I had to use silicone to keep the lower door seal in place and to keep it from falling off. The dishwasher still leaked water from the bottom of the door so I ordered a replacement lower door seal. It's no different from the first one. How does Whirlpool expect the hard plastic edge on the lower door seal to actually seal against the bottom of the dishwasher? Or is it just to short to make a good seal. This is very frustrating. The dishwasher is not over filling. I checked that. Maybe I can add a soft rubber edge to the lower door seal to create a good seal. I'm at a loss. Whirlpool needs to correct this problem. Any thoughts on what I should do next?

Brian, Not sure if this will help but if you remove the outer door panel and run the unit you can see more clearly what is happening. Make sure the dispenser or vent, if it has one, isn't leaking. You could try raising the front legs just a bit also.

Hman for Model Number KUDR24SEAL1

I just replaced lower door seal on my Kitchen Aid dishwasher. The OEM replacement does not fit securely to the bottom of the door. It keeps falling off and the slot does not grab onto the lower door as does the old part, though they look alike except the slot might be slightly smaller on the new part. I was forced to put back the old part that fits tightly. Called for a replacement part as the new part seems to be defective (part #4172127). I see the same problem on several questions from others seeking your help. I hope not to get a replacement with the same issue. Does the manufacturer have a problems with their supplier of this part?

1 Answer

Hman, It is possible that you just received a bad door seal for the unit. We are not aware of an issue with this although it has come up a few times.

Fernando, When you let the water fill up the water should be just below the heating element. There is also a lower door seal that you may want to install as it may be the issue. The part number is 4172127.
