The Lower Door Seal Kit is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers. It is designed to create a watertight seal along the bottom of the dishwasher door, preventing leaks during the wash cycle. The kit comprises a main bottom seal, two corner seals, and installation instructions. The main seal measures approximately 22 inches x 1/2 inch.

You should replace this lower door seal kit if it becomes worn or damaged. Causes of a bad door seal can include deterioration from age, damage from repeated door closures, or buildup of grime and debris that compromise the seal's integrity.

Symptoms of a bad lower door seal include:

  • Water leaking from the bottom of the dishwasher door
  • Visible cracks or wear on the seal
  • The dishwasher door not closing properly
  • Increased humidity or water damage around the dishwasher area

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

For Whirlpool Lower Door Seal Kit (Part Number: OEM9308970)

Brandon for Model Number 665. 15973992

I bought this kit and followed the instructions and it is still leaking towards the center when I opened it back up I found the seal (that goes along the bottom of the door) had fallen off. I'm not sure if this part is defective or what but it will not get a good bite on the door. I can put the old one on and it bites not problem, but is worn down and the reason it was initially leaking. The seal I received in the kits is not grabbing on to the door when in installed what do I need to do to get a replacement for this defective bottom seal.

John, The lower seal kit that you received is the correct seal kit for your unit and you will want to make sure that you use all the parts in the kit. It is possible that you received a defective part and could be the reason for the leaking with the new seal.

Watched video and replaced bottom door gasket and spacers, but dishwasher still leaked. Used correct replacement parts for model. Even called to make sure that I received the correct gasket, because it was narrower than original. Was told it was a replacement for the model. Used GE premium waterproof kitchen/bath/plumbing silicone in gasket slot and along gasket and door bottom. It worked for 2 cycles, but started leaking on third wash. Silicone had separated from door allowing suds/water to leak. It pealed off easily in one piece. Used E6000 adhesive in gasket slot that went onto door bottom blade edge. Allowed to dry three days before using. Gasket was very secure on bottom before use, but on first load it leaked badly. Very frustrating! What can I do beside buy new dishwasher, which in itself works very well?

Hello Ron. You will need to make sure the unit is not over filling first. Also, make sure there is not to much soap in the unit. If all of this is good, and the lower gasket is new, you may need to replace the inner door liner on the unit. Also, make sure the hinges are good and the door is not warped.

It leaked water and suds like an episode out of "I Love Lucy" when it was on "High Temp" wash. When it was on normal but not high temp, it still leaked but not nearly as much. It does not leak during the rinse cycle nor when it drains. I replace the gasket around the tub, it improved the situation but it still puddles a bit on "High Temp" wash. Your website says there is #4172127 lower door seal for this model but I can find no remnant of the old door seal (if there is one) on my model. Could it have moved inside the door? I can fit my fingers into the door along the bottom where the leak occurs. I checked the spray arms, unscrewed the apparatus and found that the large white washer at the spray arm base was cracked open. Could this be part of the problem? I also took off the front panels and made sure that no water was coming from under the machine. Can I use the recommended door seal even though I can't find the old one? I can't believe it disintegrated without my finding parts of it in the dishwasher. Any help you can provide will be gratefully accepted. My husband is STILL telling me to call the plumber!! Thanks so much, Stacy

Hello Stacy. It sounds like the wrong type of soap was used or you used to much soap in the unit. Run it with a gallon of vinegar to remove the soap from the unit.

John H for Model Number KUDMO1FK

The door on this model dishwasher leaks from the bottom of the door. I have already replaced the tub gasket around the sides and top of the opening. That helped but it still leaks from the bottom. l I have ordered the bottom gasket which comes with the door seals but there are no door seals on this model. My question is : does the old gasket slide out left or right or does one just pull it straight out as in the repair video. If it slides out left or right, how do I remove the door. The door on this model does not jibe with the door in the video which is to say there are no metal tabs to move up to release the door? Thanks John H

John, This unit is not showing a door gasket at the bottom of the door and you would want to check the spray arms to make sure that the spray arms are not cracked or clogged. Also check to make sure that the water is not coming from the vent assembly seal. you can check this by removing the screws from the inside of the door and looking inside for water marks running down the panel.

Tom, there are a couple of other things to check first. What can happen, is the screws that hold the top of the 8194582 pump cover on come loose over time. The water pressure blows the gasket out of place. The water then shots out the side of the pump and towards the bottom of the door. You also want to check the door vent assembly 9742770 if the wax motor has failed or the internal flapper has stuck closed, the tub can pressurize and force the water out the bottom of the tub/door.

Rick for Model Number KUDR24SEWH1

My dishwasher leaks from the left (& sometimes the right) lower corner of the door. It only leaks when the washer is evacuating the water out. I have replaced the door seal, tub gasket, radial bearing & the lower spray arm seal. It has actually gotten a little worse since replacing these parts. I have also performed the pliers in the lower rack to block the lower wash arm. Still leaks. All holes are open & clean, no splits in arms. What do you think my next move is?

1 Answer

Hello Rick, You should remove the inner door liner and make sure the leak isn't coming from the vent 9742770 or dispenser WPW10616003 areas. The vent area would be more suspect since it is leaking at the drain cycle.

Ryan, It appears that the seal slide into a groove that is in the door. You will want to make sure that it is fully seated and if it is then it may be that the door panel where the seal goes in may be warped and will not allow the seal to seat properly.
