The Lower Spray Arm is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers. This component is located at the bottom of the dishwasher and is responsible for distributing water to clean the dishes during the wash cycle.

Causes of a bad lower spray arm can include clogging due to food particles or debris, wear and tear from regular use, or damage from accidentally loading items improperly. Such issues can obstruct water flow or prevent the spray arm from rotating effectively, leading to suboptimal cleaning performance.

Symptoms of a bad lower spray arm include:

  • Dishes not being cleaned properly
  • Inconsistent water spray patterns
  • Noisy operation during the wash cycle
  • The spray arm not rotating or moving smoothly

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Hello Esther. If it is hitting while running, and not turning it by hand, then you may need to replace the spray arm. It will always hit if your turning it by hand because it floats and you can not spin it straight without the water pressure.

Paul, Make sure that when you are trying to screw the spray arm down that you are turning the cap counter clockwise or if you are trying to turn the spray arm itself and holding the cap they you would turn the spray arm clockwise to thread on. If this does not work then it sounds like you would need to replace the spray arm.

Hello Roy. For your model number, 1. Remove any remaining water in the dishwasher. If possible, the CANCEL/DRAIN button may be used. 2. Disconnect electrical power to the dishwasher. 3. Open dishwasher door and remove lower rack. 4. Pull upper rack partially forward and detach the water delivery system from the tub anchor points (2 clips on stainless models; 2 screws on plastic models). Removal of the upper rack may ease removal of the water delivery system, but is not necessary. 5. At rear of pump, grasp the water delivery system and rotate clockwise while lifting upward. When rotation stops, lift the lower spray arm until it is clear of the pump and pull forward. The spray arm assembly and water delivery system should now be free for removal.
