Richard December 07, 2014 for Model Number 66569682992 I have a Kenmore microwave oven that started making a loud constant buzzing noise; also we can smell a burnt odor inside the oven. I'm thinking the Magnetron or the Transformer is going out.
1 Answer Richard, You will first want to check the diode on the unit to make sure that it is not cracked or broken. If it is then you will need to replace it. If the diode checks ok then the transformer would be the issue in which you will need to replace it. Read More...
Shawn November 09, 2014 for Model Number KHMS155LSS1 Our microwave is not heating. We hear loud buzzing off and on then off and on.
1 Answer Shawn, Based on the buzzing you will want to check the diode and the high voltage transformer to make sure that they are good. Read More...
E B. March 23, 2014 for Model Number KEMC308KSS01 I have a kitchenaid superba microwave oven combination KEMC308KSS01. I have removed and tested the magnetron which appears to have failed. My magnetron looks exactly like the one pictured here. i.e. It has the same label with 2M167B-M16 on it and the output waveguide appears to be the same. However, using the appliance number I am shown a different magnetron. This other magnetron looks similar to the one I have but not exactly the same. Which one do I use?
1 Answer Hello! According to the model number provided the correct replacement magnetron listed for your appliance is part number WP4375424. Thanks! Read More...
Gerald March 10, 2014 for Model Number Whirlpool MH7140XFQ-0 When my wife started the microwave, there was a loud pop. She shut it off. I started it and it popped again. Subsequent starts yielded no more pops. The food heated up normally. What would cause the loud pop? Thanks
1 Answer Hello Gerald. There may have been something hit the fan blades. Honestly, there is no way of knowing if the unit is working fine now. If it does it again, remove the cover and look for a wire close to metal maybe arching? Can also, check for something in the fan blade. Read More...
Betsy February 24, 2014 for Model Number GMH6185xvs2 Whirlpool Gold Microwave has stopped heating, we are assuming its the magnetron.
1 Answer Hello Betsy. You most likely have a "high voltage" side malfunction. Transformer, diode, magnetron, Capacitor. You will need to be extremely careful if you decide to test the components with a multi meter, Very high residual voltage is present, so make sure you remove power to the microwave and short across the terminals on the capacitor. The magnetron should have a reading of less than 1 ohm resistance across the two terminals, and an "open" circuit between each terminal and chassis ground. The diode/rectifier should have a resistance reading in one direction only, no resistance, or resistance in both directions indicate a faulty diode. The primary winding on the trans former should read approximately 450 Ohms resistance, the secondary winding should read 80 ohms resistance, and the filament transformer should read 100 ohms resistance. If all the readings are proper and in range, replace the magnetron. Read More...
Richard February 17, 2014 for Model Number GMH6185XVS-1 How to access and replace the magnetron and diode?
