Lou March 30, 2013 for Model Number KHMS155L-2 The light under microwave only works on low and not on high.
1 Answer Lou, You will have either a bad light bulb 8204670 or the control board is not sending proper voltage to the light. Read More...
Francis March 19, 2013 for Model Number Whirlpool Microwave GH4155XP This unit started to make a fairly loud humming sound a few weeks ago and last night sparks were flying aroung the chamber. The plastic housing at the top center of the chamber caught on fire before I was able to shut the unit down. If it's the magnetron, is it worth replacing, and if so, can I do it myself? I'm quite handy doing almost anything including electrical work.
1 Answer Francis, The area that you are referring to as having sparks flying would be the stirrer 8184581. You would want to replace the stirrer. Read More...
Alicia December 11, 2012 Hi, I have a Whirlpool Gold microwave (model # GH8155XJB-0 serial # XC K 30 10434) which is 10 years old this month. Recently, it began making a very loud humming sound (coming from the top right of the appliance) when I try to use it. I tried warming a small bowl of water for 20 seconds. It did not warm, and there was a 'burnt" smell in the cabinet when I opened the door. My husband is an electician and we would much prefer saving this unit to purchasing another. Any suggestions? Thank you.
1 Answer Hello Alicia. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like the diode W11256462 and magnetron W10245183 are bad and will need to be replaced. Read More...
Bl November 10, 2012 for Model Number wmh1162xvq-2 My whirpool microwave will not heat, is it a bad magnatron?
1 Answer Hi. The magnetron W10245183 should read less than 1 ohm. To test the capacitor, you will look for a spike on the meter, and then a drop to 0. You can test this with a multi-meter MA-DM1. Thank you. Read More...
Justin November 01, 2012 for Model Number Whirlpool MH2175XS The microwave no longer heats anything up. It turns on and runs just fine. It just does not heat anything. So, what could be the number one problem with it?
1 Answer Helllo Justin. If there is a loud humming noise coming from the unit, then you will need to check and see if the magnetron and diode are bad on the unit causing the issue. Read More...
Al October 29, 2012 for Model Number GMC305PRQ01 My Whirlpool Gold microwave works fine but it makes a buzzing noise on load when in power level 10. In power level 1, the noise is intermittent. It seems to buzz only when the "microwaves" are emitted. I think my magnetron may be going out on its last leg. Am I breaking anything else if I continue to use it until it no longer heats up or do I need to replace the magnetron now? Do I really have a magnetron problem or something else?
1 Answer Hello Al, When you hear a low frequency growl during heating cycles of the microwave, this is an indication of a failing high voltage transformer WP4375286. I never change one without changing the high voltage capacitor WP4375020 and the high voltage diode WPW10687786. Since they are in the same circuit, they get electrically stressed and replacing them at the same time will save the new high voltage transformer. Read More...
Al October 22, 2012 for Model Number GMC305PRQ01 My Whirlpool microwave oven heats-up and works fine except it makes a buzzing noise on Power Level 10. On Power Level 1 the noise is intermittent. It seems like it only makes noise under load. I don't mind the noise but is it bad to continue using the microwave? Will other parts be affected by running it with this noise? I was reading comments on the internet and a similar problem said the magnetron might be on its last leg and will eventually no longer heat up. Is this true? Can I wait till the magnetron no longer heats up or should it be replaced now?
1 Answer Hi. The magnetron part # W10245183 is most likely the issue with the humming. Physical signs of magnetron failure is a melted tip, or cracked side magnets. If the magnetron is shorted then it will spark against the frame. If so then sand the bad section and use paint part # WP261869 (a few coats). Remove the top will do favorably to remove the cover and just see if any component is loose and causing this issue. DO-NOT-TOUCH-CAPACITOR- TOP- TERMINALS-(High voltage). See if the Magnetron fan blade part # WP4375322 may be loose on the shaft or a broken fin. Consider to purchase the diode part # WPW10687786 as well as the magnetron because it is in the same electrical circuit. This way you will have a faster repair turn around time with the parts already there. Thank You. Read More...
Mt-Bike July 06, 2012 for Model Number Whirpool GMC305PDQ2 When I push the start button, the Microwave will run (and heat)for 3 sec, then turn off. Push start again, and it will do the same. I verified all the door switches are good. I was told it could be the magnetron, and wanted to see if that makes sense.
1 Answer Mt.bike, Yes, it could be the magnetron W10245183 as well as a weak capacitor WP4375020, or transformer WP4375286 . We'll send you some information, so you can tets and determine which component(s) have failed. Read More...
Jill June 18, 2012 for Model Number MH8150XJQ1 I have a "d" in my display and the microwave will not heat up. I have been told it is in demo mode. I need to know how to get it out of demo mode. PLEASE! Thank you.
1 Answer Hello Jill, If the unit is in demo mode, the instructions are on page 12 of the use and care guide. They state to press and hold the "timer off" button for 5 seconds. I always press it and count to 8 or 10 to be sure I've held it long enough. Many times the instructions are a bit off, thus the time differential. Read More...
Sm Godlew April 10, 2012 for Model Number GH8155XMB-O My microwave has worked for many years with no problem until the other evening when it just went "dead"-no lights, fan, control panel functions, or anything. Resetting by unplugging for a few minutes did nothing. It did blow the circuit breaker. I even tried a new circuit breaker to no avail. Is this probably a magnetron problem or something else???
1 Answer Hello SM. Check the thermal fuse W11707984 and make sure it reads closed for continuity. If it is bad, you will want to check and make sure the door switches are good. If you replace the fuse, and it blows again, and the switches are good, then the magnetron W10245183 may be bad in the unit. Hope this helps. Read More...
