Francis, The area that you are referring to as having sparks flying would be the stirrer 8184581. You would want to replace the stirrer.

Hi, I have a Whirlpool Gold microwave (model # GH8155XJB-0 serial # XC K 30 10434) which is 10 years old this month. Recently, it began making a very loud humming sound (coming from the top right of the appliance) when I try to use it. I tried warming a small bowl of water for 20 seconds. It did not warm, and there was a 'burnt" smell in the cabinet when I opened the door. My husband is an electician and we would much prefer saving this unit to purchasing another. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Hi. The magnetron W10245183 should read less than 1 ohm. To test the capacitor, you will look for a spike on the meter, and then a drop to 0. You can test this with a multi-meter MA-DM1. Thank you.

Helllo Justin. If there is a loud humming noise coming from the unit, then you will need to check and see if the magnetron and diode are bad on the unit causing the issue.

Hello Al, When you hear a low frequency growl during heating cycles of the microwave, this is an indication of a failing high voltage transformer WP4375286. I never change one without changing the high voltage capacitor WP4375020 and the high voltage diode WPW10687786. Since they are in the same circuit, they get electrically stressed and replacing them at the same time will save the new high voltage transformer.

My Whirlpool microwave oven heats-up and works fine except it makes a buzzing noise on Power Level 10. On Power Level 1 the noise is intermittent. It seems like it only makes noise under load. I don't mind the noise but is it bad to continue using the microwave? Will other parts be affected by running it with this noise? I was reading comments on the internet and a similar problem said the magnetron might be on its last leg and will eventually no longer heat up. Is this true? Can I wait till the magnetron no longer heats up or should it be replaced now?

Hi. The magnetron part # W10245183 is most likely the issue with the humming. Physical signs of magnetron failure is a melted tip, or cracked side magnets. If the magnetron is shorted then it will spark against the frame. If so then sand the bad section and use paint part # WP261869 (a few coats). Remove the top will do favorably to remove the cover and just see if any component is loose and causing this issue. DO-NOT-TOUCH-CAPACITOR- TOP- TERMINALS-(High voltage). See if the Magnetron fan blade part # WP4375322 may be loose on the shaft or a broken fin. Consider to purchase the diode part # WPW10687786 as well as the magnetron because it is in the same electrical circuit. This way you will have a faster repair turn around time with the parts already there. Thank You.

Hello Jill, If the unit is in demo mode, the instructions are on page 12 of the use and care guide. They state to press and hold the "timer off" button for 5 seconds. I always press it and count to 8 or 10 to be sure I've held it long enough. Many times the instructions are a bit off, thus the time differential.

Hello SM. Check the thermal fuse W11707984 and make sure it reads closed for continuity. If it is bad, you will want to check and make sure the door switches are good. If you replace the fuse, and it blows again, and the switches are good, then the magnetron W10245183 may be bad in the unit. Hope this helps.
