Calvin, the motor [WP661600] which replaces the 8528158 is indeed a 2-speed motor. The black wire will go to the start winding on the motor, the blue to the high run winding, the yellow runs from the start winding back to the timer, white/black runs from the low/high windings to the timer motor, and white is the neutral direct side of the motor.

Rory, First check for an article "stuck" between the tub and top cover and the inner and outer tubs. The more common issue on your style washer would be a worn out 285785 Clutch Assembly and/or "stuck" [ AP3094432 Brake Shoe. The other no spin issues would involve the gearcase/transmission.

Gary, you may want to test the motor [WP661600] windings for proper resistances. If you check from the black to yellow wire on the motor, it should read between 4 to 7 ohms. From there, the blue to white wire should read between 0.75 to 2 ohms. The violet and white wires should read between 1.5 to 3 ohms. From the white to white/black wire there should be a reading of 0 ohms. If any of these resistance checks failed, then there is a motor issue.

I'm about to buy a new washer motor from you, but I just want to make sure I need it first. The washer did not drain, so after manually removing the water from the basket, I removed the pump and checked it and the hoses for a clog. I found no signs of any obstruction, so I switched on the washer on the "spin" part of the wash cycle where it would attempt to drain. Even without the pump connected to it, the motor makes a humming noise and will not turn. This humming noise I assume is the motor overloading because after awhile, it stops humming and will not do it again for at least an hour or so. Shouldn't the motor turn without the pump connected? Does this mean the motor's bad, or should I perform further testing with my multimeter? The gearcase has never made any noise, so I don't think it would be the gear case locked up.

Travis, Yes, the motor should run with the pump removed. But the humming noise at the motor indicates there's voltage to the motor. It may not be the correct voltage, or it may be that one or two of the contacts in the timer are damaged and not supplying the circuit/voltage to the motor direction circuit. Place the timer in the spin cycle, pull out the timer knob and check for closed contacts across the terminals according to the timer cam chart and cycle chart. If you can recall, did or does the washer agitate,motor run, in the wash mode ? if so, the timer is the more likely issue. The timer contacts reverse the polarity (flow direction of the voltage) when the polarity is reversed, the motor runs in the opposite direction.

Gary, take the drain pump off of the front of the motor and see if there is anything caught in it that is preventing the water from being pumped out. If it is full of water you will have to dip the water out or clamp off the tub hoses to keep water from running out on the floor.

Mike, The correct motor that you would need for your unit will be WP661600. The difference will most likely be one may be a 2 speed and the other being single speed. Unfortunately we do not have information.
