The Evaporator Motor is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool refrigerators. It is a vital component that powers the evaporator fan, which circulates air over the evaporator coils to provide cooling within the refrigerator compartments.

Symptoms of a need to replace the evaporator motor:

  • Inadequate cooling or uneven temperature distribution within the refrigerator
  • Loud noises or excessive vibrations coming from the evaporator area
  • Complete failure of the refrigerator to cool or maintain temperature

Causes of a faulty evaporator motor can include general wear and tear, electrical malfunctions, bearing failures, or physical damage from impact or foreign objects.

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore refrigerator models.

For Whirlpool Evaporator Motor (Part Number: OEM18119757)

Baha for Model Number MBL2258XES3

I have a Maytag with a freezer bottom. The freezer is working but the upper fridge is not cooling. I cleaned out the dust from bottom of the refrigerator. After removing the back panel of the inside of freezer, I noticed there was a huge block of ice to the upper right side where the Cover, Fz Thermistor would be. The fan seemed to be working. There was no ice blocking the airway going up to the fridge. I had thought that after melting out that ice with the hair dryer, it would do the work. So I put everything back together. It seemed that the fridge was about to start cooling, but it was very weak. I checked the fridge later and it still wasn't getting cool. Is it possible that the motor evaparator still has to be changed even if it was spinning the fan? Or is it something else that is causing the problem?

Baha, If the evaporator fan motor was running slowly then yes it would need to be replaced but you will want to check the damper assembly in the top back of the refrigerator compartment to make sure that it is opening. This would be more likely the cause of the failure.

Brian for Model Number Whirlpool GB2FHDXZB01

Cold freezer - warm refrigerator. The evaporator fan was not spinning. Gave the blades a spin with my hand and the fan came on. Turned the thermostat down until the fan shut off. I then turned the thermostat back up and checked the voltage going to the fan and got 110 volts but the fan was not spinning until I "helped" it out again. I am assuming that my fan motor is shot but I've also read many questions on here were they changed out the fan and had the same issues with the new fan. I don't want to spend $100 to replace a motor that is okay. Would a new fan solve my problem?? Thanks!

Brian, Yes the fan would be the issue with the unit if the fan is getting 110vac to it but not turning the fan on. You will want to replace the fan.

Hello Jerry. If the correct voltage is coming to the motor, then the motor should run unless it is bad. Some will only run if the doors are closed. The door switch will take the power away.

Hello Terry. No, not if the unit is running. If in a defrost cycle, there will be no power to the fan motor.

Krysia for Model Number Maytag mbf2258xem

My 18 month old Maytag bottom freezer fills with a sheet of ice. When I look at the back edge the water is coming through a seam and dripping into the tray, The fan shroud cover and the surrounding area has ice crystals all over. I've pulled off the back of the fridge to see if it drains and the drip pan is dry. I've run a small tool up the nozzle ( I think 27-28-28 on the schematic) to see if I can unblock something but to no avail. My next assumption is the evaporator motor which I think might be fairly easy to repair as I am fairly mechanical. Would you agree with my assessment or is there something else I should look at and try. Many thanks. Krysia

Hello Jim. The board could be bad or the wiring on the unit may be bad. Test straight at the board and see what the voltage is. J2 number 8 and J1 number 6.

Gary, Were the issue a "shot" evaporator fan, you'd have frost or ice on the back wall and on the air grill of the freezer compartment. It actually sounds more like a clogged defrost drain tube, or an air leak at the bottom of the freezer door. You'll need to remove the freezer back wall and check for an ice build up under the evaporator. You may need to use a few towels and hot water to clear the ice and drain tube of the blockage.
