The Motor-Evap is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators. It circulates cool air within the refrigerator compartment to maintain even temperatures throughout. The evaporator motor works in conjunction with the cooling system, drawing in warm air and distributing cold air via its high-efficiency fan blades.

Causes of a bad evaporator motor can include normal wear over many operating hours, damages from dust or debris buildup, and failures in the motor winding or power control mechanisms.

Symptoms of a bad evaporator motor include:

  • Inability to properly cool food items
  • Warm spots developing within the refrigerator
  • Unusual noise or vibrations from the cooling system area
  • Issues maintaining set temperatures even when cycling

This genuine OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Ben, This unit will have an evaporator fan for the refrigerator compartment located behind the crispers and behind the wall and would be part number W10633627. The freezer will have a evaporator fan motor behind the rear wall and would be part number W11452196. For the issue of the coils freezing, you will want to check to make sure that there is not a defrost issue by testing the heater and defrost thermostat to ensure that they have continuity. If these test good for continuity then replace the main board.

Hello Steven. You need to check the condenser coils and make sure the condenser fan is running. If dirty or not running, it will cause this issue. If they are good, you will need an HVAC tech to repair the unit.

PJ, To change the evaporator motor you will need to lift the freezer drawer out from the unit. If it will not lift out then at the back of the rails there is a hole that you would put a screwdriver in to release the rail. Once this is done then you would remove the air cover, icemaker if equipped, and the rear cover of the freezer. Once this is done, remove the fan blade by pulling straight off. It may be necessary to remove the fan shroud to replace the fan. You would take out 2 screw one from either side. Pull the fan blade off and remove the clip on the bottom of the motor to release the motor.
