The Circulation Motor is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers. It is responsible for pumping water through the spray arms to ensure thorough cleaning of dishes during the wash cycle. This motor helps maintain consistent water pressure and flow, crucial for effective dishwashing performance.

Over time, the circulation motor can fail due to factors such as motor wear, electrical issues, or blockages that cause the motor to overheat or become damaged. Regular use and the buildup of debris or hard water deposits can also contribute to motor failure.

Symptoms of a bad circulation motor include:

  • Poor cleaning results
  • Unusual noises during the wash cycle
  • Water not circulating properly
  • Dishwasher not completing cycles

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Dennis, If the unit completely shuts down, then this would most likely be caused by a faulty control board. If the unit's lights stay on then test the door switches on the unit.

hello. it all begun when my dishwasher stopped draining water. changed the drain pump, did not fix the problem. tried another drain pump and when i pressed CANCEL button to have it work, smoke came from under the dishwasher but i don't know from witch part. it was close to the drain pump tho. i changed the control board and my old drain pump worked. after a while, the heat sensor in the control board went out.i changed it and since my dishwasher will pause during wash cycle and the START light is blinking and need to push START button to resume wash cycle. sometime, all light will go off for about 5 minutes and then the light will come back with the START light flashing and need to press START button to resume cycle. it would that for about 10 times before finishing cycle. if Sanitize option is pressed, at the end of cycle, the SANITIZE light is blinking witch means that it was unable to do it, i guess. i changed the control board again and still doing the same thing. also changed the high limit temperature sensor and no luck. i unplugged the fan and the problem still occur. what should i replace?

Rony, It doesn't sound like you have a control issue it sounds like a power issue to me. I would remove the kickplate and make sure the house wiring has a good tight connection to the dishwasher wires where it connects. Next, I would check all the components for a good connection. Then you will need to put the unit into diagnostics to retrieve any error codes. There will be a tech sheet mounted on the inside of the kickplate between the insulation that explains how to put the unit into diagnostics and what the codes means.

Chewiezizi, If there was nothing caught in the pump then this would most likely be a faulty circulation motor.

Rajan, based on the information provided, you may want to inspect the circulation pump impeller 8193951A for any debris that may be getting stuck between the impeller and preventing it from rotating with the circulation pump shaft. If this has occurred, the impeller would need to be replaced. If the impeller does not have any obstructions and is not loose on the shaft, then the circulation pump WPW10757217 would be the most likely suspect.

The chopper screen gets clogged on a regular basis. It hasn't always been this way. I'm having to clean it out every two months. It was several years before needing to clean it for the first time. It doesn't seem to be chopping. The screen is filled with what looks like a fiberous material, like a cotton ball. I know its time to clean the screen when the dishes on the top rack don't look clean. I rinse the dishes before putting them in so I'm not even sure what is getting clogged in the screen. Anyway, I've tried replacing the chopper but still get the same results. Is is possible that the chopper isn't spinning, yet water is still circulating enough to clean the dishes until the screen gets too clogged? Are there any troubleshooting tips to help narrow down my issue?

1 Answer

Bswayze, " is it possible that the chopper isn't spinning" ? It is possible for the chopper to "slip" and not spin, but not likely, but a good thought. But there are a few checks you would want to make before you go further. Check the water level in the tub. Start the dishwasher, let it fill and wash for a few minutes, open the door and remove the lower rack. The water level should be 1/8-1/4 in. below or touching the bottom of the heating element. If not, check the float and float switch in the right front corner of the tub. If OK, replace the [AP6024301 Valve, Inlet, there's not enough water to circulate the spray arms and pump properly. Check the water temp. it should be 120 dgrs.F. on the first fill of any wash cycle. Then check to make sure you're using the proper type and amounts of detergent and rinse additive for the load size and conditions. Thanks,

Greg Dodds, it does sound like the main wash motor is bad, I would recommend replacing the entire assembly, there is less of a chance for something to leak if you try and replace just the wash motor. Part number is WPW10780877

Kevin, You will want to check to see if there is anything that is caught in the pump assembly as this would be the most likely cause for this issue. If there is nothing caught in the pump then this would be a faulty circulation motor.

JasonH, For this issue the most likely cause for the leak in the pump would be a bad seal in which you will want to replace part number [AP5048327].
