Marko April 18, 2016 for Model Number LAT9304AAE The deep transmission AP4373301 looks like it comes with the mounting stem repair kit AP4390013. Is that correct? I'm also going to replace the tub bearing AP4372971. The outer tub bolts with the rubber washers AP4318984 and lower brake bearing AP6005712. That should be all I need.
1 Answer Hello Marko, You are correct but the outer tub bolts W10175938 are normally not needed unless they are found to be damaged after dis-assembly. To avoid damage to these so they can be re-used simply turn the nuts on the outside of the outer tub and use vise grips on the inside so the rubber washers do not turn. Also, to ease re-assembly, install all of these screws before tightening any of them and install the two that are longer last, (before dis-assembly, note where the two longer screws are located). Mac October 28, 2015 for Model Number LA6910 Can't get the stem nut off turning spanner wrench "clockwise". Soaked overnight with "penetrating" chemical. Used small sledge. Any suggestions? Heat, hacksaw, grinder?. As a suggestion for the future, it might help if the handles on the spanner wrench were bent approximately 20 deg. clockwise at their mid point to optimize the angle of attack with the hammer. Any suggestions for now would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mac.
1 Answer Mac, If the spanner nut will still not come off then you will need to try to cold chisel it off. Read More...
David July 21, 2015 for Model Number LSE7806ACE Water is leaking through the seal on the bottom of the tub. Can I get away only replacing this part or do I need to replace the tub bearing (6-2040130) as well? Thanks
1 Answer Hello David. You will need to replace 6-2095720 and 6-2040130 to repair the unit. Read More...
Jeff March 03, 2015 for Model Number LAT9604AAE I ordered part # 6-2095720 which came very quickly and is the correct part. Got the first nut off for the spinning basket in the washer with the spanner wrench TBA 123 Ok. But the lower one is not moving at all. Used lots of super penetrating oil with no luck. Any secrets to get this outer drum nut lose? I hate to chisel this one off in fear of damaging the transmission threads. Please let me know , thank you.
1 Answer Jeff, The mounting stem has either a hex screw or torx head screw in the side of it and will not come off until that is loosened. Once you get it loose it should come right off. Read More...
Paul February 24, 2015 for Model Number LAT9606AAE I'm replacing the bearing and mounting stem, but can't remove the old bearing from the transmission. Don't appear to have any notches to split the old bearing either. Do all models have the notches or any other suggestions on removal?
1 Answer Hello Paul, When the bearing is seized to the transmission, use a chisel straight down to split the bearing. It will split easily and you need to wear safety glasses since it is brittle and pieces may fly in undetermined directions. Be sure when you chisel on it to only drive the chisel straight down. Any scratches or indentations should be sanded down so the new bearing will slide on easily. Don't forget to liberally lubricate the new one inside and out during assembly. Read More...
Mike January 18, 2015 for Model Number LAT8435AAM Our old Maytag washer was working fine until it overflowed and flooded our apartment. The agitator seems to be stuck. I was wondering if these issues were related. If I replaced the mount and stem seal under the plastic agitator housing, would that fix both problems?
1 Answer Mike, The unit overflowing would not have anything to do with the mounting stem of the unit. This issue would most likely be caused by a faulty pressure switch or a clogged pressure switch hose. For the agitator being stuck, there is a set screw in the side that would need to be loosened to be able to get it out. If you did not loosen this then the agitator will not come out. Read More...
Antonio December 26, 2014 for Model Number LAT9356AAE Hello, My Maytag Washer LAT9356AAE, makes a loud squeaking noise when washing and spin cycle, but nothing is leaking. How can I tell if it just the belts or the tub bearing. it would mean the difference between a $15-30 repair for belts or $100 repair for Tub Bearing kit and Mounting Stem Repair Kit and tool? Thank you.
1 Answer Antonio, The unit squeaking would most likely not be caused by a bearing issue. The unit bearing would be making a loud grinding noise during spin if they were bad. Check the pulleys and the belts which would be more common with this issue. Read More...
Kyle September 28, 2014 I stripped the set screw on the mounting stem. It's frozen solid.. What are some other options of getting the mounting stem off? I i tried cutting thru the stem where the set screw is with a cutting wheel and seemed to have made it worst. Please help!!
Bryant August 13, 2014 for Model Number lat9606aae I replaced the mounting stem with your parts a couple of months ago. Within the last month I have been getting a knocking sound during the agitation wash and rinse cycle. At first it was just in the regular wash cycle and now it is also in the delicate wash cycle. Does this mean one of the nuts I tightened with the spanner wrench or the little set screw if not holding the part(s) in place?
1 Answer Bryant, The tub clamping nut wouldn't normally make a knocking noise, if it were loose. But, if the set screw in the mounting stem was loose or seated in one of the weep holes in the transmission casing, that could create a knock noise. Also, there is a possibility that the brake package has gone dry and can make a noise in the agitate cycle, this isn't a very common issue, but it does occur. You may want to check and lube the brake package with a teaspoon of 90 weight gear oil. Read More...
Chris August 08, 2014 for Model Number Maytag Washer A284 So I just replaced the washer stem and seal kit, and the hub assembly, seal and spanner (two kits along with wrench). Everything went well (?!) and then I ran the 3 min spin cycle to set the seal. All seemed to go fine but then burning smell and smoke from belts and motor/pump. What's up? The inner tub appears centered and turns (albeit not too freely - not sure how easily it should turn?). Is something too tight or not spinning well? I've taken off the tub top as well. All belts turn. Scarred now to test and experiment as I don't want to blow the motor. Please help ASAP.
1 Answer Chris, You will want to check the pump to make sure that the pump is not seizing up. This could be the cause for the burning smell and smoke. Read More...
