The Mounting Stem Repair Kit is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. It includes all necessary components to repair the mounting stem, which is a critical part of the washer's tub support system. Comes with the hub assembly, seal, and spanner nut. 6-2040130 should also be replaced at the same time. A spanner wrench is required to complete the repair TB123B.

Symptoms of a bad mounting stem include:

  • Excessive noise or vibration during the spin cycle.
  • The washer tub appearing loose or off-balance.
  • Leakage around the central area of the washer, indicating a possible seal failure.

Causes of a bad mounting stem can include wear and tear from normal usage, especially with heavy loads, or corrosion and material fatigue that weaken the stem's integrity.

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Dr.Bob, Check and make sure you did not seat the tub cover 206380 too low, there should be a 3/8 to 5/5 inch gap between the underside of the tub cover and the top of the spin tub. Also Check and make sure the tub is center on the mounting stem and the tub cover screws are not overtorqued, causing the tub to "egg shape". Thanks

Hi Ronnie. Remove the belt and test the spin. Does the motor sound normal and turn under a spin at normal speeds? If so then it can be possible that you need a little grease in between the brass sleeve and the transmission itself. The sleeve was in the kit ? Remove the top tub cover. Look in between the inner and outer tub with a flashlight for balled up clothes. Turn the trans. pulley one way and the agitator should agitate back and forth. Turn the opposite way and the brake part # WP6-2011900 should rise and release to allow the inner tub spin. Tool, Brake Pkg Assy Item Number: TJ038315 Thank You.

Dennis, A couple of things to check. As long as you're sure you installed the tub seal and bearing kits, and installed and tightened the three tub bolts properly, try this. Check and reposition the tub clamping ring 200846 so the nut and bolt are in the front right , and left rear corners of the cabinet, and evenly torqued. Loosen the tub clamping nut WP6-2110472 a couple of turns but don't remove it. Put the washer dial into the spin cycle, allow the washer to reach the high spin speed, then raise the lid and allow the washer tub to stop spinning. Tighten the clamping nut and run the washer the remainder of the cycle then properly tighten the nut. It may take a couple of tries and adjustments, but that usually works for centerring the tub on a new stem kit. Thanks and Good Luck

Hello Patu. It is not necessary to run the washer for 5 minutes dry. If the seal and bearing were installed properly, you can run it with water. Hope this helps.

Patu, Is the leak from the bottom center of the tub ? It could be you didn't install the tub cover gasket and band properly, and water will leak from thre in a spin cycle. You may need to re check the installation of the new parts and make sure you didn't overtighten the mounting stem, and the boot is seated on the tub opening rim properly. Good Luck and Thanks

Mj for Model Number Whirlpool # LSN2000PV2

The pin that holds the tub to the frame is broke (looks more like a pin than bolt cause no rings). The "circle" or hole that the pin goes through is widened out and looks like an egg than a circle. This part holds the tub still. So it doesn't move all over the place. I think this ruined the seal which now has to be replaced as well. The washer is leaking from the bottom. Can anything but a "baby wrench" be used in lie of the other piece needed? WE have everything but those two things! :) Thank you, MJ

Hello MJ. Sorry, but the pin is not broke, they are suppose to be in the cups and are only used to line up the floater plate. the plate is secured by three small springs and balanced by the suspension spring. It sounds like the repair kit 6-2095720 should repair the issues with the unit. Hope this helps.

Dave, You could have damaged the carbon ring and seal, but it's not likely. I see no mention of the tub bering/seal kit 6-2040130, both parts should be replaced at the same time 6-2095720 and 6-2040130, and the washer should be put into a spin cycle for at least 5 minutes, to set the new seals and bearings, before filling and testing the washer for operation and leaks. Thanks and Good Luck

Steve for Model Number MAV4057AWW

When the washing machine goes into spin cycle it sounds like it is going to take off. It is VERY LOUD! It is humming like possibly a bearing and it does not keep in balance very well(lots of tub movement and vibration). It is not leaking anywhere. It only does this in Spin. I noticed there was grease on the main pully (very small amount smeard on and dirty) it looks like from ageand use, not like it is pouring out anywhere. Dont know if that is relavent. The transmission seems to be ok as well as the brake. When this thing gets going I mean it is very loud.

Hi Steve. Remove the front panel. Use a automotive stethoscope to listen to the lower spin bearing part # 12001562 before you decide to replace the tub seal assy. kit that comes w/ the upper spin bearing part # W10219156. Thank You.

Paul. Sorry, but no, the parts do not come with installation instructions. You will also need a spanner wrench TB123B, that you will need to ease the removal and installation of the new parts. Here are most of the basics. Once you have the front panel removed and the top raised up and agaist the wall(of course you've already unplugged the power cord and turned the water faucets off). Remove the tub cover There are 8 tabs along the outer paotion of the outer tub, prees down on the tub cover and "unsnap" the retainer tabs, and remove the cover. remove the agitator. loosen, but don't remove the 1/4 in. haex head screw in the lower portion of the agitator barrel, and lift the agitator out. Using the spanner wrench and hammer loosen and remove the clamping nut( this is a left handed thread, so it must be turned clockwise, be careful with the hammer, don't chip the porcelain spin tub, then lift the spin tub out of the outer tub. Using an allen wrench or #25 "torx" remove the set screw from the mounting stem assembly(the set screw is located in the indentations for the spanner wrench). This is also a left handed thread and will unscrew in a clockwise direction. Once the stem is removedremove any remaining seal, clips and washer from the area. Disconnect the tub to pump hose from the bottom tub outlet. Using a 1/2 in socket and a boxxed end 1/2 in. wrenck loosen and remove the three tub mounting bolts which hold the outer tub to the support legs. Grasp the tub and lift it up and rest it on the transmission shaft and disconnect the air dome hose from the tub right rear corner area and set the tub on the floor. step on and push the bearing assembly out the bottom of the tub, flip the tub over and insert the new bearing assembly into the bottom of the tub, use slight pressure ans seat the bearing in the tub opening. Check and remove the sinterred bearing race( if it remained stuuck on the transmission housing) clean the area with sandpaper and lubricate with high speed oil(turbine oil 55977) or an equivalent. and reverse the procedure, Before you install the mounting stem, put a few(3 or 4) drops of oil inside the bearing assembly, then complete the install of the stem and tubs. Before you complete the repair. start the washer and run it in the final spin cycle for at least 5 minutes to seat the bearing and the seal, then start the washer and check for leaks( you may also want to add detergent to the water to help wash out the tub and interior of any grease, oil, etc. If all goes well it should take somewhere around one hour to repair and test the washer. There are several repair help sites on the internet, that would have a service manual you may be able to review or download(appliancedigest, appliancejuk applianceaid.com) Good Luck and Thanks

Dennis for Model Number LA7300

When I got home, I found the leak it was at the top of the tub cover not at the bottom of the tub. I must have not got the seal in righton the top tub cover. It would only leak water with large loads at the start of the spin cycle. I still have the same problem of the tub vibrating real bad when it gets to high-speed spin cycle. Did I put something back wrong or does it need a gasket somewhere? I t never did this before I install the. You ask me when I had the tub out did I change the sleeve on the transmission. No I did not change the sleeve. What is the part number so I can see what part you are talking about on the brake down and would this cause the problem?

1 Answer

Dennis, Try this, raise the top, remove the tub cover, gasket, tub clamp and agitator. Loosen the clamping nut(a couple of turns),put the timer in a spin cycle and allow the tub to spin for a few seconds and stop the machine (the spin tub should continue to spin when it stops) then hand tighten the clamping nut , then tighten with the spanner wrench. This should balance the tub a bit better. You'll need to find three or four wood blocks (or similar) 3/8 to 5/8 inch thick and place them on the the top of the concrete balance area of the spin tub,and install the tub cover, install the cover gasket, make sure there are no twists or rolls in the gasket, install the clamping ring with the screws at the 7 and 1 o'clock position and tighten slightly(you have to tighten the screws evenly) take a flat blade screw driver and press down on the gasket, all the way around the tub, repeat evry two or three tightenings, Do Not overtighten the screws, remove the blocks and retest for the spin cycle and possible tub vibration. Thanks and Good Luck
