Al April 02, 2013 for Model Number LAT9356AAE Hello! I'm trying to replace the tub stem and seal but the upper nut securing the washer-cla won't budge. It has actually losened the stem, and therefore they turn together. I realize that in order to remove the inner tub I'd have to separate it from the outer tub. Even if I was able to remove the nut and stem as an assembly I'd still need to remove the nuts and bolts securing the braces. I don't want to apply any form of heat to the nut because the transmission shaft is plastic, and that would probably means spending more. Is there any other way I can go about doing this job other than having to call a repairman, or having to take it in for service? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Al
1 Answer Al, You will want to block the transmission at the bottom of the unit. Take a 2 x 4 and put across the 2 braces so that when the transmission meets it the transmission will not turn. Read More...
John March 25, 2013 for Model Number A412 I bought and replaced the stem and seal on a Maytag Washing Machine. The leak problem is solved. But, when I put the washer back together I ran into a couple problems. First, When I put the tub lid back on and tightened the ring, no matter how much I tighten the it, the lid can easily be pulled right off. Is that normal? Second, when the washer hits the spin cycle, the top of the inner tub is rubbing against the tub lid. I have tried to raise the tub lid a small amount. I have tightened the ring as small as it will go. This solves the rubbing problem, but when the spin cycle starts it knocks the tub lid right off. It can't stay on. What am I doing wrong???
1 Answer Hello John, Try putting a very small quantity of liquid soap on the inside of the metal ring, (not the rubber gasket). This will allow the ring to slip on the rubber and tight all the way around instead of just tightening at the screw. If you put too much the rubber gasket will slip too easily and cause you more issues. Also, use rubbing alcohol on the outer tub where the rubber seal contacts to prevent its' moving. Read More...

Teetot February 07, 2013 for Model Number A412 Maytag washer My old washer seems to get off balance no matter how much I shift the load around. It is stable on the fllor and appears to level. Could this be a bearing problem?
1 Answer Teetot, The bearing isn't likely. You'll need to remove the front panel and check the damper pads 203956 and damper 203725. If the pads are worn and or sticking out between the damper and the base, this allows, the friction and movement of the tub to transfer into the base and cause the machine to vibrate, shake, and walk. It's actually a somewhat easy, inexpensive repair, if that's the issue. Read More...
Chris January 09, 2013 for Model Number LAT9356AAE Just replaced the mounting stem/boot seal kit on my good ol' Maytag. Followed install instructions from a pro on Youtube (at a reputable appliance parts site). The leak stopped, however, the spin cycle is now extremely noisy, even with a water-only load. The feet are balanced. What did I miss?
1 Answer Hello Chris, It may be that the tub bearing 6-2040130 is bad. When the tub bearing goes bad there will be a loud grinding type noise. Read More...
Ronnie December 04, 2012 for Model Number Maytag LAT2301AAE I need to replace the agitator shaft collar to fix my problem of the agitator lifting up and not turning during the wash. Dennis November 08, 2012 for Model Number LA7300 I replaced a stem seal kit(6-2095720) about six to eight months ago and now the tub seal is leaking. I took out the seal and found that the nylon part of the seal was cracked. What could I do to help to prevent this from happening again when I install the new seal? Thanks.
1 Answer Dennis, To do this repair properly, you'll need to repalce the tub bearing kit 6-2040130 and the tub seal kit 6-2095720 together. A cracked or broken "carbon" ring, is a good indication of over torquing the mounting stem, or improper installation. Remember, when you install the "boot" make sure it is level and properly seated on the tub flange, and when installing the mounting stem/tub support do not over torque it (hand tighten with the spanner wrench, then a light tap with the hammer, or the ball of your fist is enough torque), and put the washer through the final spin cycle (no water) to seat the seal ring properly. Jereme R. October 15, 2012 for Model Number Maytag A412 Series04 The washing machine is leaking grease into the tub and onto clothes. I am assuming a seal is bad, but I am unsure which one should be replaced? Any help with the part number and necessary tools to replace. Thank You
1 Answer Hi. Before you order the mount stem / seal kit... Remove the agitator fabric softener cup. Loosen the agitator lower side 1/4" bolt and lift up and off with the agitator. Look under the agitator and clean all fabric softener builds up inside. You need to use a screwdriver or a putty knife to ease removal. Use a bottle brush. First old softener will turn dark blue-green-brown-then black and it will make a person think the exact issue you described. Lift the top. Unclasp the top tub ring and clean all build up inside the inner - outer tub at the top of the outer tub as well. Spray scrubbing bubbles on the back side of the top ring and let set while cleaning the rest. Use washer magic cleaner part# TJ131 monthly to clean internal tub, pump and hoses. Thank You. Bill August 19, 2012 for Model Number lat9600aal Installation of the Mounting Stem Repair Kit. I think I can figure it out but I want to ask anyway. For me, I break fewer parts that way. I have already removed the internal parts, retaining ring, washer, nut clamp& washer cla. I assume the top lid section needs to be removed and the inner tub removed. Any tips, things to pay close attention to, and/or advice/directions. also being that it is all apart now any way. Any other parts I should look at or simply replace as preventive maintenance. Thank you. Bill
1 Answer Bill,You are intending to replace the mounting stem and tub bearing kit 6-2095720 and 6-2040130. You may want to consider a new set of belts 12112425 and some TJ055975 lubricant for the new bearing assembly. We'll send you some additional information that should be helpful, but you're on track so far Read More...
