The Water Valve is an OEM part for Whirlpool ice machines. It controls the flow of water into the ice machine. When activated, this valve opens to allow water to fill the ice mold during the ice production cycle and closes to halt the flow once the mold is full.

Causes for a bad Water Valve can result from mineral deposits or debris, obstructing the valve and affecting its function. Electrical failures or wear and tear can also lead to issues like leaks or incomplete opening/closing.

Symptoms of a malfunctioning Water Valve include:

  • No ice or smaller than usual ice cubes, indicating an insufficient water supply.
  • Leaking water from the valve area.
  • Ice machine fails to produce ice despite being in proper working order otherwise.

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Valve (Part Number: OEM18051783)

Hello John. Make sure the freezer is between 0° and 5°. You need to check and see if there is power going to the water valve when the icemaker cycles. If so, replace the water valve on the unit. If not, or the icemaker does not cycle, you will need to replace the icemaker on the unit. Also, check and make sure the fill tube on the unit is not frozen and clogged. If so, replace the water valve and thaw out the fill tube. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Hello Terry, I'm sorry but we cannot recommend a part that is not recommended by the appliance manufacturer since we have no way to know if it is a satisfactory replacement or not. It would have helped to have the model number of your appliance but we still cannot recommend a part that the manufacturer is not an approved part for your units' repair. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.

Ronnie for Model Number KUIS155HBL3 not sure can't seem to find it.

its a kitchenaid undercounter ice maker with a smart water valve and optional waste water pump. The ice maker will make ice just fine for about 1/2 a day to maybe 2 days then the entire unit shuts down. no panel lights or ice bin light. So far the board , the ice bin thermistor and wiring harness has been replaced. the unit shows to have main power to the unit , the transformer both in and out, and power to the control board. I'm wondering if the smart valve is being told that the water level is too high and shuts the unit down completely like that. Just seems unlikely that the control lights and the bin light would go off even on a error .

Hello Ronnie. You will need to check the power coming to the unit. Make sure it is correct and make sure the house breaker is not failing. Only thing left is a board issue. But if it is new, I would start with these other test first.

Hello David. If you get no water from the water valve when the icemaker cycles, you will need to order and replace the water valve on the unit.

Allan for Model Number KUIS15NRTB2

My under counter kitchen aid KUIS15NRTB2 ice maker stopped making ice the other day. Nothing. Zip. It had been working perfectly for several years. The cleaning panel light on the far right is lit red. I tried doing a cleaning cycle but it did not work. Starts making sounds but never moves any water. It does not move water under normal operation either. I'm guessing a water valve somewhere has stopped working. Looking thru the parts list I see valve part number AP4362516. Is that the most likely culprit? Thx

Allan, While the water valve could be the issue, you will want to check the thermistors on the unit to make sure that they are good. If the thermistors check ok then the water valve sounds like it would be the issue.

Tom, Unfortunately No. The fill valve has to be replaced as a complete part/unit. There are no individual parts available. But, it sounds like you could shorten and reroute the tubing, and properly insert it into the compression/john guess fitting and solve the problem, if the interior parts haven't been damaged.

Brad for Model Number GI1500XHS8

Greetings, my Whirlpool ice machine is leaking water into the floor. The leak is from the left side when facing the unit. the unit may run all day with out leaking but it is now to the point it will leak at least once within 24 hrs. Often more than that. I can turn the unit off an back on and then here water draining. The unit is 8yrs old and I don't know if this is time to buy a new one or try and fix this one. Not sure if a valve or pump would be the fix, or if it is worth doing on an older unit. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Brad, If you remove the panel at the bottom front of the unit, you will see the water valve in which you will want to check this for leaking. It may only be leaking a small amount but can cause it to leak out in the left corner sporatically. The part number for the valve is W10801996.

Will, There is no video showing how to replace the water valve on a icemachine. For this part you will need to shut the water off and remove the lower cover on the front of the unit. Once removed there will be 2 screws holding the valve in place. Remove the screws and disconnect the wire harness going to it. Once this is done, push on the yellow ring around the tubing on the valve and pull on the tube. This will pull the tube out of the valve. You would do the same thing on the other tubing and install the new one.

Hello Nick, Since we are not the part or appliance manufacturer, the only information we have is feedback from our customers. If an ongoing issue exists with your unit, you should contact the manufacturer with the information and it is possible to receive compensation from them. We have not been notified of another re-design of this valve.

Hello Shelton. Inlet is on the top and outlet is on the bottom of the valve. You may have a bad control board on the unit causing the issues you are having.
