The Water Valve is an OEM part for Whirlpool ice machines. It controls the flow of water into the ice machine. When activated, this valve opens to allow water to fill the ice mold during the ice production cycle and closes to halt the flow once the mold is full.

Causes for a bad Water Valve can result from mineral deposits or debris, obstructing the valve and affecting its function. Electrical failures or wear and tear can also lead to issues like leaks or incomplete opening/closing.

Symptoms of a malfunctioning Water Valve include:

  • No ice or smaller than usual ice cubes, indicating an insufficient water supply.
  • Leaking water from the valve area.
  • Ice machine fails to produce ice despite being in proper working order otherwise.

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

That is a push in connection. You can press the yellow disk towards the valve to remove the line. Check to see if the line is cracked if not re-insert and check for leaks again. If it still leaks replace the valve.

Frank, Take the lower access panel off the unit and test to see if there is 120 Vac to the water valve. If there is proper voltage then replace the valve and if there is no power then replace the main board.

Iceman, For this issue, the cracked part would need to be replaced if it is keeping the unit from making ice. If the pump hose or pump has a crack then that is what would need to be replaced.

Dove for Model Number 689589700

This is an under the counter ice machine. I have noticed the cubes are smaller and it is dripping water a little from the cutter. The main thing I notice is the water bin does not fill up. In watching it - I see a very small stream of water. We disconnected the supply line and blew it out - it seems to run fine. I have also seen a small amount of black debris when I run a clean cycle (came out of the bin when I emptied the water). Can a value be taken apart and cleaned (if that is the issue) or do you think it is something else? I have started manually filling up the bin the last day or so and I get ice, but it's thin.

Dove, You would not want to disassemble the valve but would want to replace the valve for this unit. Also check your cutter grid to ensure that it is not broken or damaged.

Tom N for Model Number MIM1554ZRS0

My ice machine was working just fine. Then I made a fatal mistake of wiping out with paper towel. Machine quit making ice. After trouble shooting I found that paper towel part head gotten into circulation pump preventing water to circulate. I took everything apart, cleaned out paper. Circulation resumed but the ice is a lot thinner. Can never fill bin because ice is too thin and some melts as other is produced. Question. I read were thin ice is related to low water supply. I cleaned everything, took apart accept water value. Do I need to pull out water valve and see if there is paper in it? The other thought is I may have damaged to pump motor when paper got are impeller. Could that be an issue? Any other things I should try?

Ron, You will want to check to see if the cutter grid is broken as this could cause this type of situation of the ice not cutting fast enough causing the water to drip.
