For Whirlpool Oven Burner Assembly (Part Number: OEM12280830)

Craig for Model Number Maytag MGR5770ADW

The ignitor in my oven glows bright orange when I turn it on. Within 15-20 seconds the burner turns on but it takes a long time to come up to temperature (45 minutes or more). I've taken the bottom cover over the burner out and watched what happens. The flame sputters off and on and will not stay lit consistantly with a good hot flame. Over time you can begin to smell gas from the flame kicking off and on. What part(s) do I need to replace?

Hi Craig. You will need to replace the igniter part # is 12400035. The oven valve is part # WP74006427. Espically if you smell gas then with the burner not lighting, the valve is lazy and not closing. Thank you.

Hi Kevin. You need to be familar with using a clamp on type of amp.meter. Then clip it on one white wire on the gas valve, behind the lower drawer. When calling for heat the ignitor should pull between 3.2 and 3.6amps within 30-45 seconds. If it does not then consider replacing the ignitor. This part # is 74007498. Thank you.

Hello Phil. You could have a weak ignitor. If the ignitor does not get hot enough, it will not release the gas at the valve. There is a way to test this at the valve. You should have 3.3 to 3.6 volts AC across the two wires coming to the valve. Hope this helps.
