This auxiliary relay is an electrical switch used by the control to route line voltage to high-demand components. Replacing a weak or failed relay restores reliable power delivery for consistent heating and fan operation, depending on the model.

  • Switches power to elements, fans, or other high-load components when signaled by the control
  • Offloads high current from the electronic control for durability and reliability
  • Common symptoms can include: oven not heating or heating intermittently; element or blower won't run; audible clicking with no heat; discoloration or melting at relay terminals
  • Supports stable operation by providing a dedicated, serviceable switching point in the circuit
What's included: 1 auxiliary relay Install notes:
  • Disconnect power at the breaker and verify no voltage before servicing
  • Access the relay near the control/wiring harness; note its mounting orientation
  • Move wires one at a time to matching terminals; ensure snug spade connections and repair any heat-damaged wiring
  • Secure the relay, reassemble panels, restore power, and test operation

For Whirlpool Auxiliary Relay (Part Number: OEM18032538)

Fred G. for Model Number Maytag Gemini Double electric oven

My wife is saying the lower oven is not baking properly. Specifically the top of whatever she is baking is not getting done or browned. So she gets burnt bottoms and undone tops The oven preheats just fine and the upper element works on broil. It also seems to be on when on the Bake cycle. (Trust me I burned my finger on it.) The bottom element appears to be working just fine. Is it possible that the upper element is just not getting hot enough? If so, what would cause that? Thanks - Fred

Hello Fred, This sounds like a relay issue on the control board. For the specific board part number that we can guarantee will operate properly on your unit, you would need to please post a new question and provide the units' model and serial numbers from its' I.D. tag. This is normally on a flip up tab at the top of the control panel. Feeling back there will reveal it since it cannot be easily seen. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.

Brian, you're on target, check or replace the auxiliary relay WP74003482. It supplies the L2 power to the oven elements. The relay has to close when a bake or broil cycle is selected. We attempted to send you some illustrated information but the e mail was returned as a deamon mailer.

Craig R for Model Number MER6772BAS

Maytag MER6772BAS, upper oven all over the place temp wise. Broiler works, bottom element not so much, intermittent, but mostly no. Sensor reading 1080 ohms, within spec. Elements reading 20 ohms (+/-), within spec. No observable evidence of damage/wear on any of it. Some *clicking* going on in the control panel on occassion. I am told there is an "oven cycle relay", but I can't find it on any parts breakdown unless it is the "Auxilliary relay". If so, I suspect that to be the culprit...but I'm guessing. What do you think? TIA for your input. Craig

Craig, You will want to check the wiring of the oven sensor from the sensor to the control board. If the wiring checks ok then the issue will either be the auxillary relay or the control board that is causing the issue.

Hello Bob, The squealing board will be the board that has failed. This is the sound the transformer makes when it has failed.

V, This issue would most likely be caused by a faulty control board if you switched the lead from the lower individual double relay to the individual upper relay. This would indicate that the control board WP5701M406-60 is not sending power to the bake element .

Hello Martin. It sounds like the control is bad and will need to be replaced on the unit.

Hello Alvin, You should check your series number. This is the first two digits of the serial number. As per the tech sheet, if the serial number begins with 16 or lower, it has no auxiliary relay. If your units' serial number begins with 17 or higher, it is illustrated as being mounted right next to the clock assembly.
