Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Washer Lid Switch (Part Number: OEM18038235)

1 Answer

Jeff, You will want to check the timer from the black wire to the black/white wire to make sure that there is 120 vac at this point. If there is proper power then the issue would be the timer. If not then check the wiring from the black white from the timer to the motor. If this wire is good then the motor would be faulty and need to be replaced.

The issue was for the past 3-4 months when we were starting the cycle the water was filling up but then it was not starting the cycle. We had to literally bang on the closed lid few times to start the cycle. Then I purchased the Lid Switch from your site and replaced it with the old one. Issue remains the same, still you have to band on the lid few times and keep praying that cycle will start. Where else I need to look before start thinking of buying a new one? I would appreciate your response. Thanks.

I have had my lid switch replaced previously due to similar issues: Having to shut lid repeatedly or having to pound on lid to start initial wash cycle. Lately, depending on the load size, we would have to apply pressure on the lid (and possibly progress the timer a bit manually certain cycles) in order for the washer to complete the entire process. While I researched the cost and issue, I continued to wash several loads having to apply pressure to the lid throughout some washing, all draining and spinning cycles, including progressing the timer between rinsing/spinning. But then, (accompanying some popping when closing the lid) the washer seemed to start functioning as usual. After a few loads I realized that the agitation was proceeding without the lid closed. Which makes me wonder if there is a also problem with the arm in the lid which attaches to the lid switch. So my questions are the following: Should I still replace the lid switch? Should I replace the arm which connects to the lid switch? If there is a problem with the arm does it make the repair much more complicated? Is the arm part sold here online/with repair video?
