Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Dryer Thermal Fuse (Part Number: OEM18024984)

Srk for Model Number LG9501XTW0

Is the Thermal Fuse # 694511 used on the dryer is one-time-blow out type or it opens and closes at pre-set high and low temp? If it is later, I would try changing the fuse and see if following problems gets resolved. Problem: The dryer starts, drum rotates, heat comes on but stops after 3 to 4 mins. After a while, say about 30 mins, when restarted it starts. and shuts itself off again in 3 to 4 mins. I checked the fuse after dryer cooled off and the fuse not hot. It reads very low resistance say 0.005 ohms. I already changed the solenoid coils but the problem remains.

SRK, The thermal fuse would be a one time blow. If the unit is cycling off after 3 to 4 minutes it would be recommended to check the venting of the unit to make sure that the venting is clean. If the unit is shutting off then look for anything that would cause a drag on the motor.

Emer, You will want to check to make sure that there is power getting to the unit. If there is then test the thermal fuse on the blower housing and if this checks ok then the issue will be a faulty main control board.

Hello Bonnie. Really the only way to test it is with a meter. You only replace the fuse if the fuse has failed.

Marie for Model Number WGD8300SW0

Hi, I have a Whirlpool duet sport dryer that's about 10 years old (model number WGD8300SW0) that only drys on the low temperature and when we try to use the hot temperature on the timed cycle it gets hot it shuts off and takes about 10 to 15 minutes to turn back on with a "PF" on the control panel. We press the power button and then start and it starts works. We did clean the inside and removed all the lint that accumulated. We replaced the belt, pulley rollers and the blower fan. Do I need to replace the control panel in order to use the hot temperture or replace the thermal fuse and the heating element? We had that replaced about 5 years ago.

1 Answer

Marie, First check the exhaust vent pipe and vent hood to make sure there are no exhaust restrictions. Also check the outlet and power cord to make sure there's nothing loose and there's proper voltage to the dryer. The thermal fuse and cut out react to temperature and if either one opened, the dryer wouldn't start or would start and run with no heat. If all checks OK, replace the exhaust thermistor, and suspect the motor to have a worn bearing and overheating causing the motor thermal fuse to open.

Lasher, Since the heater coil on your dryer is located down on the base of the dryer, on the right side, the "clicking noise in the rear by the heating coil area" is most likely from the machine control board WP8546219 located on the left side of the cabinet. Remove power from the dryer, check to make sure the connections at the trminal block are good and tight. Raise the top panel and check or replace the machine control board.

Gary, If the thermal fuse does not correct the issue then the issue will be a possible faulty door switch.

Linda, With the unit drying but not finishing then this would most likely be faulty gas coils on the unit that will need to be replaced.
