For Whirlpool Dryer High Limit Thermostat (Part Number: OEM18024972)

Tom, No, not necessarily, It does indicate a high or extended amperage draw on the heat system. You may want to consider this as a replacement 279973 and 279457 to be sure the system is safe and check all the wires for loose connections including the connections at the power cord terminal block.

Robert E for Model Number GEW9250PW1

I ordered a new heating element from your company. It will arrive today or tomorrow but in the meantime, I have already removed the old one. Here is my question since I foolishly forgot to mark the wires for re-installment. The short black wire (about 5 inches) goes between the thermal cut off and the hi-limit thermostat. They should be both at the bottom connections for each....correct? The red wire at the top of the thermostat (still attached) should go to the upper most connection on the heating element...correct?

1 Answer

Hello Robert. The red from motor connects to the heater. Then a jumper from heater to thermostat. Next jumper from thermostat to hi limit. Then the red wire from the board connects to other end of thermostat.

Hello Leo, The most likely part responsible is the thermal limiter 134120900. This part can be easily tested by raising the main top with a putty knife or paint scraper and use a test meter set to the lowest resistance setting. Remove the power from the unit before raising the main top and remove one wire from the part located on the heater housing near the rear and test for the same resistance as read when the meter leads are touched directly together, (zero resistance). If it reads opened, replace the part and check the exhaust duct for crimps or clogs to prevent blowing the new part.

Hello Gary, If the unit heats, the thermostats and thermal fuse are closed. The only way to check these is with a temperature check at the dryer exhaust behind the unit. It should be opening at about 205°F and closing at about 105°F give or take 10%.

Chris, You will want to check to make sure that the cycling thermostat is operating and cutting power to the heating element. Also check to make sure that the heating element is not shorting to ground which would also cause the heater to stay on.

Hello Misty. It sounds like the venting system is clogged or kinked. You will need to check the vent and clean it out. Be sure and clean the vent pipe and the dryer air duct assembly. If the air flow is not good, the unit will retain moist air causing the clothes not to dry. Try running the unit with the vent unhooked from the back of the dryer and see if the dryer works properly.
