For Whirlpool Outer Tub (Housing) (Part Number: OEM17914131)

Lisa for Model Number Whirlpool Duet

Hi! We just had some bearings replaced on our washer, the spider was corroded but still one solid piece. The loud banging noise has finally disappeared from the spin cycle, however now a banging noise appears when the spin cycle is going from a high rpm and slowing down to a stop. It seems like the basket might be rubbing on the gasket bellows or on the bearings seal. The steel basket seems to sit a little low but it is not touching the plastic outer tub whereas before the bearing repair they were touching. However I would say there is much more of a gap between the outer and inner tub at the top of the tub than there is at the bottom of the tub. Maybe from gravity? How can I know if our new bearings are bad or if the springs were placed on the wrong place when the drum was removed? What else could it be? Maybe new shocks are needed? There are no noises during wash or spin, only when spin is slowing down it seems.

1 Answer

Lisa, You will want to check the spider again because this will most likely be the cause for the issue with the unit being lower in the front than the back. With it being corroded it is very possible to be broken.

Hello Steve. These are very tight. Just keep working it back and forth until it slides into the bearing. Try supporting the outer tub on blocks so you can work the inner basket.

Hello Mark, The lubricant is applied to the spinner support shaft (spider shaft) before inserting it into the bearings.

Howard Z. for Model Number CSR2411485, 11044832202, Kenmore Elite

The tub in the washing machine is sitting crooked and will not spin. The washer is 10 years old and has not have a great deal of wear. I had a repair technician come out today and identify that the rear tub bearings are shot. He said buy a new washing machine. I can have the rear bearings replaced with the rear drum assembly (W10253864) for about $400. However, I have also noticed that the tub is sitting crooked and there is some slight damage to the white plastic around the front of the tub. Otherwise the tub looks in good shape. Does this slight damage (that probably happened when the bearings failed) mean that I need to replace the tub? If I replace the rear drum, do I need to replace the front drum? Do you think that there are any other parts that would normally be replaced with a rear drum? Thanks

Hello Howard, When the rear outer tub assembly is changed the only part that has to be considered is the spinner support, (the shaft from the inner tub assembly WPW10250573), unless the spin basket has contacted the inside of the outer tub assembly. This can cause wear that can make the unit leak water so any parts that have wear should be replaced.

Phil for Model Number kenmore/ whirlpool 11045862402 part # AP4412018

hello, the rear bearing on my washer blew the seal and most of the ball bearings are gone. I started looking to purchase a bearing kit and come to find out that I must purchase the whole "outer tub" in order to get the bearings (screwed) for this model #. there are many similar models where you can purchase just the bearing replacement kits. would it be likely or possible to purchase a bearing kit that would fit this ? I could measure the diameter and depth of the existing bearings.

1 Answer

Phil, Unfortunately the manufacturer does not offer the bearing as a separate part for your unit and would require the outer tub to be replaced.

Ron for Model Number 11044832200

I have a kenmore 110.44832200 front load washer. The drum just recently started to spin off balance and now has worn away the plastic shoulder on the front of the outer drum, which has created an even larger gap, causing it to knock and be more off balance. I think I need to replace the white plastic front outer drum, but will this correct the problem, or is there something inside that is causing the drum to be off balance and will eventually wear out the new outer drum again? Does the rear outer drum need to be replaced(bearing shot??)Bearing doesnt make any noise. It is all apart and I am capable of handling this repair myself. Thanks.

Ron, Yes the front drum would definitely need to be replaced. What you will want to determine is whether the issue is the spinner support on the inner tub being broken or if it is not broken then the tub bearings are bad and would need a new rear outer tub.

Ron, Yes, you'll need to replace the rear outer tub to replace the bearings which are worn and allowing the tub to "wobble. you also want to check the spin basket shaft and support arms WPW10250573 make sure there are no cracks or breaks in the arms and the supports are still firmly attached to the basket. Then replace the remaining parts as needed.

John for Model Number 42822203 kenmore H3

I have read other peoples questions, and i still dont seem to have this correct. When My kenmore H3 washer goes into a spin it sounds like its taking off. yes a loud bass sound. now i read replace this replace that, if i order a part it may not be that part it may be another, taking the washer apart is alot of work, and once apart i would need to know where i can go get the part, around where i live there is no where i would need to order it. so with this in mind. Which direction do i go? Keep in mind i am not made of money and do not want to order more then one part unless necessary. I am an electrician and I have worked on some of these washers and dryers, so i dont need someone to come out do it i just need to know what am i looking for as far as sound and or vibrations ETC again it sounds like a jet taking off, and its real loud only on the spin.

The sound you are describing is typically the bearings in the rear tub. I can't say 100% for sure but that is the area I would look at first. The bearings for your model are only available with the outer tub assembly part# W10772617
