Water inlet valve assembly includes: Hot and cold inlet valves, thermistor, vacuum break and wiring harness.

The Water Inlet Valve Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines, designed to control the flow of hot and cold water into the washer. This component ensures that water enters the washing machine at the correct times during the wash cycle, filling the tub to the appropriate levels for efficient cleaning.

Causes for a Water Inlet Valve Assembly to fail include sediment buildup from hard water, which can block the valves, wear and tear on the solenoids over time, and electrical failures that prevent the valves from opening or closing properly.

Symptoms of a bad Water Inlet Valve Assembly include:

  • The washing machine does not fill with water, or it fills very slowly.
  • Water continues to drip into the tub even when the washer is off
  • The washer fills with the wrong temperature of water

This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Water Inlet Valve Assembly (Part Number: OEM18047292)

1 Answer

Hello H. Dan D, You will want to check the water temperature of your cold water supply. If the water temperature is below 70 degrees then you have a bad water valve and will need to replace valve. The water valve operates off a bimetal. If the temperature of the water is below 70 degrees the bimetal trips and the unit will switch to hot water. When the hot water bimetal trips it switches back to cold water. If the cold water temperature stays above 70 degrees it will not trip for the hot water cycle. The Warm cycle target is 78 degrees plus or minus 10.

Altoona L for Model Number ATW4475VQ! (Admiral Washing Machine)

Cold water problem. Starting a washing cycle, the cold water enters the machine for about 10 seconds and shuts off. The hot water works okay, the timer is working and the washer works through the cycle except during the rinse. No water during the rinse. I assume that is because the cold water does not enter the tub. I checked the cold water line and it is clear. I was reviewing the answers on installing the water intake part W101-44820. It appears from your answers, you have to remove the control panel and enter the machine from the top, as opposed from removing the rear back plate.

Hello Altoona, This is correct, to access the water valve WPW10144820 you will have to use a putty knife under the endcaps of the control panel and depress a clip and roll the control panel out. Once this is done then you will remove the clips holding cabinet to the rear panel in order to access valve.

Hello Steve, It looks like your model number is missing the 1st three numbers. I searched "110" 29522801 and found your model so you may want to verify that. Your water valve WPW10144820 is accessible from the front of the machine not the back. If you'd like to see how the front cabinet comes off, check out the video shown on replacing your drain pump [3363394]. Hope this helps! http://www.appliancepartspros.com/whirlpool-whirlpool-direct-drive-3363394-ap2907492.html Here are step by step instructions as well. 1. Unplug washer or disconnect power. (also disconnect the fill hoses) 2. Slide a putty knife under the right or left corner of the control panel. Lift the corner of the panel and push back on the knife blade to release the clip. Repeat the procedure for the other clip. 3. Rotate the control panel and position it back out of the way. 4.Lift the locking tab, and disconnect the main harness from the lid switch connector. 5.Remove the 5/16? hex-head screw from the green ground wire on the lid switch. Lift the washer lid so it is straight up. Release the locking tab and pull the lid switch up and out of the cabinet top opening. 6. Use a screwdriver and unclip the left and right cabinet spring clips from the cabinet top. 7. Rotate the cabinet up in the back and slide forward so you can access the top of the tub,and set the cabinet aside." You now have access to the fill valve assembly Use a flat blade screw driver and remove the plastic mounting pin, and disconnect the tabs in the assembly from the slots in the cabinet back, disconnect the wires and reverse the procedure to install the new valve assembly.
