Water inlet valve assembly includes: Hot and cold inlet valves, thermistor, vacuum break and wiring harness.

The Water Inlet Valve Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines, designed to control the flow of hot and cold water into the washer. This component ensures that water enters the washing machine at the correct times during the wash cycle, filling the tub to the appropriate levels for efficient cleaning.

Causes for a Water Inlet Valve Assembly to fail include sediment buildup from hard water, which can block the valves, wear and tear on the solenoids over time, and electrical failures that prevent the valves from opening or closing properly.

Symptoms of a bad Water Inlet Valve Assembly include:

  • The washing machine does not fill with water, or it fills very slowly.
  • Water continues to drip into the tub even when the washer is off
  • The washer fills with the wrong temperature of water

This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Water Inlet Valve Assembly (Part Number: OEM18047292)

Hello T rex. You need to check and see if the hoses are reversed on the back of the unit and it is causing hot for cold and cold for hot water. Also, remember this model uses a thermistor and does mix hot with cold for proper breakdown of the soap in the unit. Even if the valve WPW10144820 is set to cold only.

Hello Chip, Here is a general overview of the units' disassembly. Before you start, be sure to unplug the unit and turn the water off on both the hot and cold supplies. ACCESSING COMPONENTS INSIDE THE WASHER CABINET Components inside the washer cabinet can be accessed by completely removing the outer cabinet as one unit. 1. Remove the console mounting screws and tilt the console into the service position. (Panel mounting screws can be located on the rear of the end caps, or in the front corners of the control panel . On newer models, there are spring clips on the bottom of the end caps, that need to be pressed in toward the rear of the unit to be released, using a putty knife or other flat bladed tool). 2. Unplug the lid switch harness connector from the receptacle in the washer top. 3. Remove the cabinet mounting clips by placing the flat blade of a screwdriver in the clip and press down and towards the rear to release the clip. 4. Remove the cabinet by tilting it forward and pulling it away from the washer. 5. The rear panel can be tilted back for additional access to components at rear of machine by twisting the rear panel support 90° and then tilting the rear panel back. Now when you have the body of the unit removed, there is a black press in plug that prevents the water valve from drifting in its' mounting holes. Remove it and unplug the wiring harness. The water valve has a little plastic clip in the center that, when pulled toward you, allows the entire assembly to be slid up in the mounting hole for easy removal. Reassembly is in the reverse order. Don't forget to plug the lid switch back in as this will confound you when the unit doesn't work when reassembly is completed.

Brian for Model Number Whirlpool WTW5300VW3

I have a Whirlpool WTW5300VW3 that won't run when water is set to cold and stops when cold water is needed for rinse. When set to warm, the water only comes out hot like there's no cold water getting to the unit. I first replaced the ATC Switch W10184148 / AP4358828 which didn't correct the problem so I also replaced the water temperature valve W10144820 / AP4371093 which I also purchased from Appliance Parts Pros. The old Water Temperature Valve smelled like it was burned out on the cold side's motor control. I even tried replacing the timer with another brand new OEM part and there was no difference. I also tested the hot and cold water lines from the wall and both appear to have plenty of pressure. I can't find anything else that could be related to water temperature, please help!

Hello Brian. Test and see if there is power coming to the cold water valve and make sure that the cold water is on and comes freely out of the cold water hose. If the water is good, and there is no power, and the switch is new, then the timer WP8577356 may be bad, or you may have a burnt wire or connector on the unit. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Melanie for Model Number Admiral ATW4475XQ0

Washer problem - I only have a cold water line for the washer. Washer is 3 months old. Cold water will not fill. If I fill water with water hose it washes, it does do refills for the rinse and spin, complete cycle, just no initial fill. Not sure based on the Q&A if it is the water valve or the pressure valve? I do hear a very faint hum when I turn it on to fill, just no water. I have the hot water inlet capped off in the back. Tried to switch hose to that, and water does come out but slower. Please help, can't wait for the repair man.

Hello Melanie. Make sure the unit is set to cold water fill. If so, test for power to the water valve for the cold water. If there is power there, and no cold water enters, you will need to replace the valve WPW10144820. Make sure there is water coming from the water hose to the water valve and the screens are not clogged. Hope this helps.

Ron, you're probably correct. There is a way to check it if your meter also checks voltage. Carefully, with your meter set to check 120 volts, see if you're getting power to the solenoid when you select hot water. If you're getting power to it and no water is flowing, it's bad. Thanks.

Jose', Your washer works the same on all temperature settings. The ATC temp. control has " target temperatures" : cold = 62 dgrs. wrm = 78 dgrs and hot = 105 dgs. The control will cycle the fill valve solenoids off and on, open and close the valve in order to reach and maintain the selected temperature on all settings. In short, yes the same thing will happen in the hot setting as it would in the warm setting. Hope this helped more, Thanks and Good Luck
