The Water Inlet Valve Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers. This valve assembly is crucial for regulating the flow of water into the dishwasher during the wash and rinse cycles.

Common causes include mineral buildup from hard water, wear and tear from frequent use, or electrical issues affecting the valve's solenoid. A malfunctioning valve can lead to improper water levels or no water entering the dishwasher at all.

Symptoms of a bad water inlet valve assembly include:

  • The dishwasher not filling with water
  • Low water levels during cycles
  • Water leaking from the valve
  • The dishwasher not cleaning dishes properly

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Jim, You will want to check the pump impeller to make sure that there is nothing that is clogged that would cause lower water pressure to the upper spray arm. You will also want to check to make sure that the upper spray arm is not clogged or cracked. Check to make sure that water is coming in just below the heating element. If not then water fill is not proper and you will want to replace valve.

Hello Mick, Check to make sure nothing has gotten under the float making the control think it's full of water. As long as the water hasn't been turned off to the unit, and nothing is holding the float up, it's a safe bet that the water inlet valve WP8531669 has failed to open an is in need of replacement.

Hello Karen, If the water inlet valve is bad and the unit isn't filling to a proper fill level, this would indeed cause the spray arms to be deprived of the water pressure necessary to spin them and perform a proper wash. The other two things that could cause the issue is a stopped up screen in the pump and motor assembly, or a pump impeller damaged or wrapped in a piece of debris that inadvertently made its' way into the unit.

Rick K. for Model Number WHIRLPOOL GU1500XTKSO

Starting tonight the dishwasher will not drain. Murky water in the bottom. It is 10 years old and has always run flawlessly. My wife pointed out the water in the bottom of the washer. I hit the Cancel/Drain button and a "02" showed up on the display. The water didn't drain but I hear a faint humming. Do I need a valve or something? I doubt the drain hose is clogged as it is used once per week, sometimes twice. What do I check 1st, 2nd, 3rd. Thanks!

Hello Rick. The first thing you will need to check is the drain hose on the unit and see if it is clogged. Then check in the sump assembly and make sure it is clear as well. If all is clear in the unit, you will need to order and replace the drain pump WP661658 on the unit.
