The Water Inlet Valve Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers. This valve assembly is crucial for regulating the flow of water into the dishwasher during the wash and rinse cycles.

Common causes include mineral buildup from hard water, wear and tear from frequent use, or electrical issues affecting the valve's solenoid. A malfunctioning valve can lead to improper water levels or no water entering the dishwasher at all.

Symptoms of a bad water inlet valve assembly include:

  • The dishwasher not filling with water
  • Low water levels during cycles
  • Water leaking from the valve
  • The dishwasher not cleaning dishes properly

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Hello Becky. You may need to use needle nose pliers to remove the wires from the water valve [AP3178611. Pull on the plastic connectors and not the wires. They pull off.

Hello Gordon, Everytime I encountered this complaint it turned out to be air in the plumbing. I would consult with a plumber before replacing any parts so as not to waste your time and money. Then, if you don't get it solved through that route, I would check to make sure the valve is getting a constant 120Vac. It could be a relay on a control board. Good luck!

Hello Greg. The resistance for the windings for this part is 695 to 995 ohms, but can be irrelevant to testing the part under a load condition. Any electrical part in general can test OK, but not be mechanically functional. Make sure the inlet screen is not clogged. You will want to check for voltage (120 VAC) at the valve terminals on a fill cycle. If you get the full voltage while in a fill cycle, then it is bad. The water valve is part # WP8531669. If you get 0 vac under a fill load, then the device is good. You can test the wires and control panel at the water valve, if you unhook at least one wire and isolate it for safety, then if you get the 120 vac from the control board relay, then the wires are good. Make sure the float is moving freely up and down. Thanks!

Jimmy, First, you want to check and make sure there's enough water, and it's hot enough. Start a cycle, allow the machine to fill and wash for 5 minutes. unlatch and open the door, check the water level in the bottom of the tub, it should be high enough to contact the bottom of the heater element, low water level affects the spray arm operation. the water temperature in the bottom of the tub should be at least 120 Dgrs.F. low water temp. does not breakdown the detergent chemicals properly and has an effect on the washability. If all's OK, we'd suggest you consider: a plain powderred detergent and reduce the amount of rinse additive if you have an adjustable dispenser. Thanks and Good Luck
