The Lid Switch Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This safety feature is designed to prevent the washer from operating when the lid is open. It ensures that the spinning cycle can only commence once the lid is securely closed, protecting users from potential injuries.

Over time, the lid switch assembly can fail due to normal wear and tear, accidental damage, or from being tampered with.

Symptoms of a bad Lid Switch Assembly include:

  • The washing machine does not start or stops suddenly during the cycle.
  • The washer does not spin, even though it fills and agitates.
  • The machine operates regardless of the lid's position, indicating a bypass or failure in the safety mechanism.

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Hello Julie. The model number you provided is not working. You will need to remove the screw and see if there is a seal under it leaking. If so, you may be able to replace the seal. If the tank has rusted and the screw is leaking due to rust, you will need to replace the water heater. Hope this helps.

Hello Bjorn. The lid switch WP3949238 is the switch for the unit, and the actuator is the part the presses the switch. With the lid closed the switch should read closed for continuity across the two outside wires. If it is bad, it will need to be replaced. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. Hope this helps.http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Hello Barbara. If you look at the plug coming from the console there should be three connectors. One of those should be a green wire which is the ground. Jumper the other two and see if the machine works or test the two non-green connections in the lid switch for continuity when the lid is closed. I hope this info helps.
