Symptoms of a bad water tank assembly include:

  • Water leaks inside the refrigerator
  • Reduced water flow from the dispenser
  • Ice maker not producing ice
  • Unusual tastes or odors in the water

Jack, if there is not a frozen line or tank, the failure would be in the filter head (only available as part of the reservoir assembly W11346622).

I really like your web site, lots of info. for the DIY person. My refrig. water dispenser has flow for a few seconds and then slows to a trickle, also the ice maker is not getting enough water as the ice cubes are very small. I can hear the solenoid valve buzzing so seem like that is working. From reading the other questions it seems like it is likely there is a problem with the filter head connector. is there a way to flush this portion of the system? what usually goes wrong with the filter head? I no longer have the filter bypass cap since this refrig. came with my house. when the filter is removed there seems to be no way to get water to flow. (I have well water with a water softener, so I thought maybe I just need to flush the system.)

Brian, This issue will be with the filter head assembly and it will need to be replaced. There are plungers that are not making which will cause water to not flow properly and the only way to correct this issue will be to replace the filter head assembly.

What is the OD of the plastic tube (the yellowish one) that comes from the wide tank tubes and then goes into the assembly head. Mine is clogged with debris from a broken filter (not from my refrigerator, from a whole home filter that split open), and I would like to clear it out. I'm wondering if I can cut this line open, and then buy some fittings and secure the line again. If it's a standard size like 3/8" or 1/4" that would be perfect. Thanks!

1 Answer

Jon, This tube that is coming off the water tank would be a 5/16" o.d. tube. You could use connector WR02X11330 to cut and splice the tubing.

My water is coming out extremely slow and the water sprays out when I remove the filter. I am assuming the tank head needs to be replaced but when I put the bypass plug in, pressure is great. I have tried replacing the filter twice and does not change. Could this be the tank head even though the pressure is fine with the bypass plug? Also, could this low pressure be a reason that the ice maker would stop getting water? Or would that be an indication that I need to replace the dual valve as well. Please advise which parts you think I need. Thanks, Joe

1 Answer

Joseph, Yes the water pressure issue could be causing the icemaker to not get water and would most likely be the filter head that is faulty with the unit.

I am trying to replace the water tank head assembly. I have accessed the rear refrigerator liner and I can see the water tank and associated hoses. I am having trouble getting the water tank off of the 2 posts or clips that are supporting the tank and holding it to another mounting type panel. How do I get the water tank off of the 2 posts without breaking any other mounting clips or the water tank itself? All of this plastic seems very sensitive and it is difficult to pull the tank of these 2 posts or clips. Also, what is best method for installing new tank? Thank you.

1 Answer

Hello Alex. WATER TANK 1. Turn water off to unit. 2. Disconnect water line that supplies water tank from water supply. 3. Remove crispers and shelves from right side of fresh food compartment. 4. Remove covers on back bulkhead by inserting screwdriver in slots to release tabs. 5. Disconnect water line from outlet of tank to inlet of water valve by holding tubing collar stationary and pulling water tube out of valve. 6. Remove water tank and tubing. 7. Reverse procedure to reassemble.
