The Water Inlet Valve is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This part controls the flow of water into the washer during the fill cycles. The valve opens to allow water to enter the tub and then closes once the desired water level is reached, ensuring the proper amount of water is used for washing.

Causes of a bad water inlet valve can include mineral deposits and sediment buildup, electrical issues such as faulty solenoids, or wear and tear from frequent use.

Symptoms of a bad water inlet valve include:

  • The washer not filling with water
  • The washer filling slowly or not stopping filling
  • Leaks from the valve area
  • Inconsistent water levels during cycles

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Potential series changes might cause the valve to be part number 12002158. Make sure to verify your model number for the correct part.

For Whirlpool Water Inlet Valve (Part Number: OEM18019347)

Robin for Model Number MAV6458AWW

I have a Maytag Ensignia washer and we have very hard water. the washing machin went from using hot water and cold to just cold and when it starts the cycles it drips all the time and sometimes after washer is off there is a inch or 2 of water in tub left. We have recently replaced our hot water heater and added a water softener and now both functions (hot and cold) work but the hot water will not turn off now just keeps running and running. I read on line to check a few things and I did what they said and when I unplug the machine it still runns full flow so for the time being I just turned the hot water off at the line. I am scared that the cold is going to start doing this too. I have read that it is a WATER INLET VALVE issue. Is this the most likely cause due to the very hard water in the past years have damaged the valve? I am going to replace the valve but want to make sure this is the correct one before I buy it, it looks idenitcal to the one on the machine, Thank you, Robin

Hi William, most likely you need a new water valve but you're going to need to check your serial number so you know which one to order. There were two different valves used on your model due to a change by the manufacturer. If your serial number starts "10" through "18", order part# W10821146. If your serial number starts with "19" or higher, order part# WP22004333. If you're unsure please call us and someone will be glad to help you figure it out. Thanks!

Hello Billy, You should check for sufficient water pressure as prescribed by the manufacturer. The recommended pressure is from 25 PSI to 125 PSI. If the valve is still acting up, the valve WP22004333 should be replaced. Since the water valve is closed by water pressure only with no spring to aid in its' closure, the possibility of the valve being defective is high since the water valve seat is exposed to the mineral deposits and sedimentation of the water supply.
