Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Dryer Heating Element (Part Number: OEM9282771)

Tom for Model Number Whirlpool Ultimate Care II Electric Dryer Model LEQ8858JQ1

I ordered a new Heating Element # WPL 279838. Using the Video I replaced it without a question. I still had no heat. I ordered the fuse - WPL 3392519 AND the Thermostat WPL 39777767. Using the repair video they went in without a hitch. I still have no heat. I cleaned the dryer vent area as well as I could with my hand and the wall vent as well. I replaced the silver accodian hose as well. I still have no heat. On the element repair video there were two red wires and a brown/rust colored one. I only had two red wires. I connected one to the heating element and the other to the thermostat. Is this an issue? What are other reasons the dryer is not working?

Hello Tom. Check and make sure you have 240 volts coming to the dryer. Check and make sure the unit is not set to Air Fluff. Make sure the heater and the thermostat are connected together and then 1 red wire is on heater and the other is on the thermostat.

I just replaced my heating element, but still not receiving any heat. I know the outlet is providing enough power as I had another dryer plugged into it and it was working fine. Is it possible the thermostat is bad as well? The heating element that I pulled out was half black, so I figured that was surely the problem. Also is it possible to plug the terminals incorrectly? If so, how do I determine which quick connect goes on which terminal? Please let me know if there is something else I need to try. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Hello Tina! Yes, when you first install a new heating element the dryer can put off an odor for a short period of time after starting it. Thanks.

Hello Mike. Based on the information you provided, you will need to replace the terminal block and then repair the burnt wire on the unit. There was a loose connection to cause this issue with the unit.

Hello Marshall J. It sounds like the venting system is clogged or kinked. You will need to check the vent and clean it out. Be sure and clean the vent pipe and the dryer air duct assembly. If the air flow is not good, the unit will retain moist air causing the clothes not to dry. Try running the unit with the vent unhooked from the back of the dryer and see if the dryer works properly.
