The recoil starter assembly is used to crank-start the engine on lawn and garden equipment. This housing contains a starter pulley and spring, the starter rope and grip. When the starter rope is pulled using the grip, the pulley activates the spring, which retracts and starts the engine with the help of the flywheel. It may be time to replace your recoil starter if there are issues getting the engine started with the pull rope. If the starter rope is stretched out or the starter itself is seized up due to age or wear, it may be easier to replace the entire unit than to try to fix just one component. This recoil starter is compatible with lawnmower engines and pressure washers from Briggs & Stratton, Honda, and Toro. This starter is sold as a single unit. All of the hardware and screws necessary to attach the assembly are sold separately.

The starter grip, also sometimes known as the recoil starter knob, is designed to provide a handle to engage the pull-start flywheel on many lawn and garden equipment engines. The handle is attached to a rope, which is attached to the starter housing. When the grip is pulled, the rope causes the starter spring and pulley to engage, which then engages the flywheel and allows the engine to start. Without a starter grip handle, the engine cannot be engaged. A full replacement will be necessary, and this part can do the job. This genuine OEM starter grip handle is designed for use with select engines manufactured by Honda and used on lawn and garden equipment from Honda, Toro, and Lawn Boy. There are more than 150 compatible models. This part requires no tools to install unless the rope needs trimmed. Simply thread the rope through the hole in the starter handle, loop it and tie a knot, and thread it back through the eye bolt that secures the handle in place, if the equipment has that feature. This starter grip is sold individually and does not include the starter rope or other components. It may be wise to disconnect the spark plug before attempting to repair or replace any of the starter components, including this grip.
This part is discontinued by the manufacturer and is no longer available for purchase.
