Background - Wife and I are 78 years old. Since there is no budget for new or repair we did it ourselves. I have COPD and could no have done it without her help. Im not a repairman, so all my knowledge to fix my washer came from either youtube or online chats. I posted this to help the next dad trying to save a few bucks. Door sensor... I saw videos on it possibly being the lid switch. I used 2 lead wires to bypass the lid switch, which indicated it was indeed the lid switch that was faulty. I ordered the lid switch, which came in 2 days. I installed it in less than 7 minutes. Read more

I had to replace the drive shaft and the lower agitator. The motor coupling was also worn out. The repair was challenging because I had to rebuild the gear box. This step was really messy and I had to wait for the liquid gasket to set prior to completing the repair. Cleaning and prep of all of the parts tripled the repair time. Read more

Researched this kenmore washer on-line and found the problem to be the lid switch. Saw a diagram on how to jump this switch by connecting a wire to both outside wires on the harness and voila! It worked! This is not a fix but it allowed me to finish the load of unwashed clothes and told me which part was bad (do not run washer jumped like this.......fire hazard!) The bolt that holds the agitator and the agitator cam was rusted in place so it made the project way more difficult than it should have been. Had to cut the agitator off the shaft and cut the head of the frozen bolt off. Thankfully, Appliance Pros had all three parts I needed. Once the parts arrived it only took ten minutes to fix. Since the house was going to be full for Christmas, the fast shipping really, really helped. Was able to get it done before the guests arrived. Read more

Springs were broken and back bracket was bent I replaced the bracket and all four Springs including the vertical one. I removed the cabinet as shown in the video. Then with a pair of vise grips's removed the springs one by one and replace them. The bracket was rusted And bent i used a quarter inch socket with a quarter inch ratchet to remove the screw. Due to the rust i used penetrating oil the screw. Read more
