Washer making loud metal grinding noise during spin? The transmission converts motor power into drum agitation. Moderate difficulty repair with video guide.
I knew from the loud sound during the spin cycle that the bearings were going out, I ordered a gearcase part number W11455453 (AP6993918) which has the bearings, tub seal, and shaft altogether which makes the repair much easier to complete. I will say you should also order the spanner wrench it makes taking the spanner nut off and putting back on much easier also, part number TB123B (AP6832671). With this model washer, you don't have to take the tub out you just need to take the washer plate... Read more
Repairs loud roaring or grinding noises during spin cycle. Replace when bearings rust or seals leak water. Confirm fit with your washer model number.
After about 6 months of use with our Whirlpool Cabrio washing machine it started to sound extremely loud in the spin cycle, we should have called Whirlpool at this point to have it looked at under warranty. Fast forward 5 years later our loud washing machine ended up leaking out the bottom, we had a local service company come out to take a look at doing the repair and they quoted $800 to replace the outer tub assembly. I was not going to pay $800 and figured that most likely we would purchase a... Read more
Fixes loud roaring noise during spin cycle or basket wobbling. Connects basket to drive shaft for smooth spinning. Moderate DIY repair with video.
After ignoring for a couple of years that the bearings were bad on our Whirlpool Cabrio washer and just closing the door to the laundry room, it started slinging grease underneath during the spin cycle. Knowing that the cost to call out a repairman would be close to the cost of a new washer, I decided that it would be a nice Saturday project after reviewing AppliancePartsPros’ repair video. The bearing & tub seal kit and bearing installation tool arrived in two days. I’ve done a lot of... Read more

Fix washer clicking noise, no agitation, or no spin. This clutch engages transmission for wash basket rotation. Moderate DIY repair, 1-2 hours.
Unplugged power cord, shut off hot and cold water valves, and disconnected hot and cold water lines. I taped the lid closed and laid washer down on its front panel to access motor parts underneath. Removed center screw (allen wrench) and then removed large, round, plastic rotor (had to use some force with fingers behind it to get it off).
