This part is a control board that is made for use on microwave units. The purpose of this part is to control all of the appliance functions. This includes heating, lighting, and turntable operation.When this part goes bad, the microwave will not work in some way or at all. This includes any of the functions including cooking properly, turning the lights on and off, or operating the turntable. This specific control board is compatible with microwaves that are manufactured by the General Electric brand. This includes the Hotpoint and RCA brands also. It is sold individually is comes directly from the manufacturer as a high-quality replacement part.
This, by the way, is the 2nd replacement of the Control Board for the "Top of the Line" and very expensive GE Profile Microwave Model JVM1790SK. The 1st "Replacement" Control Board was purchased about 5 years ago - directly from GE Parts. The Unit has always had minimal use in a 2-person, adult, household. I discovered that two of the retention tabs on the grate are actually retained by screws, and those two tabs were broken when I pried the grate off. I ordered the new part, which fit perfectly, but I had to partially uninstall the over-the-range microwave in order to do so. I loosened the support screws that hold the microwave up and lowered the front of the machine to expose the screws that needed to be removed and replaced. I goggled why my microwave would not heat and found an article on Appliance pros of 3 possibilities. 2 easy to fix..so I started with the first one which was the door switches. Followed the instructions and found the switches,removed them, brought them to my local Ace hardware to check connectivity. 2 of the 3 switches where bad. We first called a repairman, who wanted $80 just to come out. Said they "didn't have much luck" with such problems, and tried selling us a new microwave. So I did some web research, and the consensus was a short in the touchpad. ApplianceParts not only offered the best price on replacement, but offered technical assistance. Removed the control panel, replaced the touchpad, and repaired the problem in less than an hour! Best $80 I've spent:-) Read more
