Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You My whirlpool dryer of 25 years wouldn't turn on!   Cynthia S. • Atlanta , GA • November 26, 2016

I tried all the obvious solutions but no luck. I called an appliance repair person and he said it sounded like the timer. He asked for the model number and would get back to me with a price. He called back the next day saying its so old that he would have to special order it and it would take awhile and would cost $200 plus his service charge. He suggested I'd be better off getting a new one. Well after reading the reviews on the new dryers they just don't make them like they use to. So I... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The motor on our clothes dryer was doing a "self protection" thermal or overload shutdown and there was a strong odor in the tub   Jim S. • Fallon , NV • November 27, 2015

It took two repair attempts to fix the dryer. At first, I noticed that the rear felt seal was completely worn out, so I thought that extra friction between the tub and the rear panel might be causing the motor to have to work too hard and overheat. I ordered a new seal from appliancepartspros.com, and installed it according to their instructional video, but it did not correct the problem. Then I decided that the motor must be going bad, so I watched the on-line video on how to remove the... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The lever to turn on dryer was broken the handle was broken and the latch was broken   David R. • Jemison , AL • February 09, 2015

I opened the top of the dryer (after watching the video on your website) and replaced the lever on the switch. Removed two screws near the lint filter, used a putty knife to release fasteners under the top and raised the top. Held it in place with a short piece of board then removed the two screws holding in the switch and lever. Replaced the broken lever with the new one and put it all back together. The handle was a little more difficult as it took a lot more prying with a screwdriver to... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Whirlpool dryer wouldn't run   Scott M. • Orange , CA • October 03, 2014

I'd replaced the motor that I purchased here about a month ago. It worked fine for a few weeks, then it just stopped and wouldn't start. I searched on the Internet and found the 3 most likely culprits. Since the dryer is 24+ years old, I decided to just purchase all 3 and replace them. The dryer cycling thermostat was different than the original, so I didn't replace it. 20 minutes and I had the dryer thermal fuse and thermostat replaced and the dryer functioning. I ordered the parts on... Read more
