The Torsion Spring is an OEM part for GE refrigerators. It is essential for maintaining the proper tension and operation of the refrigerator door. This spring ensures the door closes smoothly and stays securely shut, preventing cold air from escaping and maintaining the appliance’s efficiency.
Causes of a bad torsion spring can include metal fatigue from regular use, corrosion from exposure to moisture, or damage due to excessive force or mishandling. Over time, these factors can weaken the spring, affecting the door’s performance.
Symptoms of a bad Torsion Spring include:
- Door not staying closed
- Difficulty in opening or closing the door
- Door feels loose or unbalanced
- Unusual noises when operating the door
This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

No error codes; just lots of noise and movement James S. • Winchester , TN • April 29, 2023
After a few days of our 16 YO Frigidaire Affinity front-loading washer (model ATF7000EG0) dancing around the room bellowing like an elephant in musth, I decided to fix it. Well, technically, my wife decided I would fix it. I postulated that the OEM tub suspension system was rapidly deteriorating, so I ordered the shock absorber kit (5304485917), three nylon pins (131268300), two suspension springs (134362800), and a new drive belt (134051003) for good measure. These parts all arrived in...

Extreme shaking. Mark C. • Lake Oswego , OR • March 31, 2020
No luck, I did the easy fixes first by replacing the shock absorbers then the springs to no avail. Looks like the problem is in the much more expensive and difficult spider arm.

A suspension spring broke. Donald R. • Levittown , PA • October 31, 2020
I believe the shock absorbers were bad and caused too much stress on the spring, breaking it. I replaced the spring, spring protector, and shock absorbers. I got lucky; when I got the drum back up where it belonged I saw that the door boot seal straightened itself back out and wasn’t damaged so I didn’t have to replace it. The whole job took about three hours and the washing machine runs more smoothly now than it did when it was new!
