Richard for Model Number wm 2501HVA The hub on the rotor was completely stripped out. I replaced that, just the hub. Not it goes but every now and then the magnets clang into the coils. There is no damage to the magnets or the coils and while it is spinning the rotor seems to run smooth. The hub should be designed to wear out before the spline but there seems to be a little wiggle when tightened on. The washer is 14 years old.
Answer Hello Richard, the symptom and your description indicate the rear outer tub spin bearings are worn allowing enough play for the direct drive motor to have contact between the stator and rotor.
