How to Troubleshoot & Replace Frigidaire AP3844555 / 134484212 Control Board

My dryer quit. The store where I purchased the dryer was out of business. This is too bad, they had a wonderful store and service department. I called another store (the well-know, high end, place), they would not service the dryer because they are now only servicing appliances that they sold. So, off to the internet. Then I thought, OK, maybe it is time to purchase a new dryer. Checked around. Even with Labor Day Weekend sales, it was really pricey. I decided I could figure out what was broken and there must by a DIY video for the repair. After a few searches, I found the "APP" channel on YouTube. I was confident, after watching the video on dryer control board replacement, this was something I could do. I then searched for the best price on the control board - it turned out to be "APP". Ordered the part, it arrived very quickly, and today I undertook replacing the control board. Playing the video as I started on the repair - there was never any doubt what to do and what to do next. Matt's instructions were clear, easy to follow, and he pointed out the little "tricks" you need to get it done correctly - things like what tools to use to remove a connection, or what tab to press, or how far to push the top panel back to get into the dryer. I have used DIY repair videos before. AppliancePartPros.com is among the best I have used. The entire replacement took less than 30 minutes. I have nothing to say but great things. I replaced the control board and it worked as it should. I had to take off the top lid by removing two screws behind the machine. Then I had to remove four screws that held the control panel in place. I disconnected the plugs to the control board to free the control panel from the dryer. I removed four screws that held the control board to the control panel. I removed the control board from the control panel by prying both sides of the control board. I inserted the new control board into the control panel, put the four screws back to secure the control board to the control panel. I inserted all the removed plugs back in, screwed the control panel back in place with the four screws, replaced the lid and switched on the machine and it worked immediately. The whole repair took 20 minutes. 

After reading similar issues I ordered the control board. I also ordered the thermal limiter, thermostat, and control thermistor just in case. After replacing the control board, no more issues. Also, the video on replacing the control board was very helpful and I used it prior to replacing the board. It was extremely helpful. 

The new control board fixed the problem. There were no instructions that came with the new part, but we took pictures of the old part before removing it and replace the new part and all worked out. 

I googled the problem. Read the codes in the flashing lights. Went to this website and entered the model number. Brought up the part to be replaced, ordered part,watch install video. Installed part in about 15 minutes. Only tool was a screw driver. I can only imagine how much a repair service would cost.

Even though they tested OK I replaced the top three likely culprits- the Thermal Limiter, High Limit Thermostat and the Thermistor. Nope, no cure yet. The heating coil glows nicely and has good continuity. The door switch tests good and has power going thru it always. The motor centrifugal switch kicks out nicely and powers the coil circuit. I bypassed the control board motor relay with a jumper from the tan to gray wire and the motor would run endlessly ruling out an overheating motor thermal protection kicking it off. So.....not much left but the control board. Took it apart, nice and clean no burn't areas, but I did order a new one. YAAAY! It works! Fixed. Next, I shall cure COVID 19.

The time from ordering a part to delivery at my house was less than 24 hours every time. I then watched the video that they had of my exact dryer and fixed it without a problem. Probably the best experience I have ever had with ordering parts online. 

I figured that the problem had to do with the control panel and found appliancepartspros.com through in internet search - and am I glad I found them! The part was easy to locate via the model number and the part screen had a wealth of information including a schematic and a video showing how to remove and replace the part. I ordered the part and received it in a very timely manner as they indicated on the website. When I ran into some difficulty and had some questions, I contacted them via their on line chat. Their most helpful representative took the time to answer all of my questions and concerns. I put in the new part and the dryer is now working as it should. The price of the part was reasonable but the service was priceless!
