How to Troubleshoot & Replace Frigidaire AP5690432 / A00126501 Drain Pump Assembly

After putting in my model number on the website, a list of parts came up so finding the part we needed was easy. The worst part of the repair was the water that had to be emptied (unfortunately on my kitchen floor with towels soaking it up). Swapped the pump and ran the dishwasher and it was working perfectly. Better than spending the $100 deductible for home warranty. 

Order the part from AppliancePartsPros came the next day. Watched the video and my brother that had never worked on a dishwasher put the drain pump in and it works perfectly. My husband drained the water out with a wet vac then blew out the hose to make sure there was not a blockage. He determined that the drain pump was not working. The dishwasher is 11 years old but we found a compatible (not exactly like the original) drain pump on your website. It was delivered within 24 hours, excellent. My husband was able to install the pump quickly and so far so good.

It was to easy for a DIYer. As always, start with flipping OFF the breaker or unplugging the appliance to be worked on. I simply disconnected the the drain pump (place a towel underneath it for the water in the hoses). I ordered the part from AppliancePartsPros.com on 29 APR 15 and had the part in hand on 01 MAY 15. After the installation of the new drain pump I flipped the breaker to ON and ran a short cycle. 

1) purchased and replaced motor kit -- fixed spraying of water during wash 2) purchased and replaced drain motor & cleaned out drain hose -- fixed problem of not draining 

Searched numerous sites such as Sears Parts Direct, eBay, Amazon, etc. and found Appliance Parts Pros as an "ad" on amazon since they did not have the part. Previous to that, I conducted various internet searches that confirmed the diagnosis of a drain pump malfunction on the likes of YouTube, etc. Long story short, I ordered the part from Appliance Parts Pros as the part cost, shipping, shipping time was the most competitive and beat many sites. They promised an average shipping time of 1.7 days if I recall accurately too. I ordered late Friday afternoon, and got my part the next day! I installed the following day with relative ease. My dishwasher is actually more effective and quieter than when I bought it 9 years ago! 

For those looking for Frigidaire part number154247502 and found it is no longer available, this pump will work. The only difference is the outlet fitting diameter is 1.25”, instead of 1”. You can either purchase a new drain hose for a dishwasher that takes this pump, or do what I did. I used a heat gun to heat the rubber on the end of the hose and expand it so it would fit over the new pump outlet. Problem solved. 

I watched the YouTube video recorded by AppliancePartsPros.com, which was clear, detailed, professional, and to the point; perfectly understandable to a lay person. It turned out that the problem was a defective pump. I ordered the pump from ApplianceParts Ptrobsro Parts which arrived in 2 days. I then replaced the pump following the step-by-step how-to video. The only issue I had was that the electrical wire out of the dishwasher was buried inside the wall; no big deal: I just turned it off from the circuit breaker panel. The whole process took about one hour (I am a very slow worker). My dishwasher now works perfectly well and of course I save a lot of money in the process. Thanks guys!
