How to Troubleshoot & Replace Frigidaire AP4556791 / 316555800 Dual Element

Replaced the Dual Element. one small problem the replacement Element was different, so it didn't work when I turned it on. Checked my photo it looked right but after a few minutes, I notice the terminal marking were different. I had to switch two wires. one of the wires was too short. I reposition Element on the holding bracket which moved the terminal closer to the input wire and that fixed the problem. 

I replaced the terminal end and replaced the dual element.Two wire connections were different in different locations from the old one,I matched up the larger and smaller spade ends and it worked perfectly.Taking apart the cook top (flat glass slide in type) was a little more complicated that just lifting the top like other ranges I seen on video`s.Once you get the range apart you can turn the glass top over and take the cover off and replace elements. 

The Appliance Parts video indicated that the burner which looked to be in good condition needed to be replaced. I purchased a burner because of the easy return policy and to my surprise, it worked. 

Got on Appliance Parts Pros website. Described problem and questioned how difficult this repair would be for DYI person. Received good instruction and a part number. Ordered repair part and received within 24 hours of order. Exceptional service. 

Ordered a new element and installed it. The tech service guy was very helpful, to help me perform some diagnostics on the range in order to determine if it was the element or the switch. The ordering process was smooth. 

Pulled top-off counter. Removed and replaced the main burner. Made sure all wire connections were snug. 

Turned off the power at the breaker...raised the stove cooktop after removing the four (not two) screws under the lip at the top of the oven door and propped it open with a 2x4...took pictures of the wiring configuration and disconnected...removed the defective element by pinching the anchor tabs...had to rotate the new element a quarter-turn to make the wiring reach and needed to attach the element to the bracket with self-tapping screws...mounted the burner bracket tabs...re-connected the wiring harness...removed the 2x4 prop...re-seated the cooktop and re-installed the four (not two) screws...turned the power back on at the breaker...everything works just fine...the new element even turns off the hot surface indicator light after the element has cooled...prior to replacing the bad element, it had stayed lit continuously...easy install...the biggest obstacle was the mental challenge...took about 45 minutes or so with only mild imprecation, profanity and pleading. 

The large portion of the dual element failed to heat. I had previously repaired with an aftermarket element, which failed in 3 months. This time went with OEM dual element. Relocated the mounting clips to position the electrical connection block to existing location, very easy. Works perfect so far. The worst part was finding the mounting screw I dropped. 

Replaced the Dual Element burner..Take a photo before removal for easy repair. 

Got it replaced. The new part was different but I made work.
