How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP4297334 / WE14M124 Drum Support Bearing

After disassembling the dryer with a phillips head screwdriver, I cleaned the insides with a vacuum. Took the worn parts out, and used a flathead screwdriver to put the new parts in. Easy one person job, just remember which screws were from which holes. 

I ordered and installed the upper drum bearing housing, 4 slides and felt seal. 

WITH THE PARTS I ORDERED 

A simple quick and easy fix. Fast shipping, all the local repair place had to order the parts and was going to be a lot higher. 

I was gonna throw the dryer away, it had left that burnt pinch mark in enough of my shirts and I was done with it. Had a friend with an extra dryer and I bought it for $50 bucks. Called all those people in the want ads that claim that they will come pick up your old appliances for free, couldn't actually get anybody to show up and haul off my squeeky dryer, so there it sets in the corner of the dining room for a month.....looking......staring....saying "fix me, that other dryer can't love you like I can". Sure enough that stupid $50 dryer takes like 5 times as long to dry anything, makes me wish I had my old dryer back and it would stop eating my clothes. So one night I take the squeeky dryer apart, find this website with all the parts I needed for 68 bucks shiipped. Parts took like 1 day to get here, super fast stuff. And Mr. squeeky and I are back together. Moral of the story, should of looked here first. Now I have a $50 dryer in my dining room..... and you dont have to disassemble the entire dryer down to its microns like I did, turns out that front panel comes of pretty easy. ( knowing is half that battle, should have googled that too) 

I am a retired repairman. i worked for myself for 20 years. 

On disassembly I found that the bearing slides (WE1M504 & WE1M10564) had worn away and that the drum had worn down the plastic housing on the drum support bearing (WE14M124). I ordered parts from Appliance Parts Pros after comparing prices (including shipping). I also ordered the Duct Felt Seal (WE08x20441) as the old one was worn. The parts were ordered on a Wednesday around 4 PM and arrived by 9AM the next day, shipped from KY to Central NY. I installed the new parts and was good as new for a total of $68 and change. Instructions for replacement were included with the order but the appliance construction is simple enough to figure out. Video instructions can be found on YouTube. 

Took it a part to see what the problem was. I then got online and found your website and in less than 5 minutes found my parts and placed the order, Now my dryer is fixed and I saved a couple of thousand dollars. I will be back when I need parts. 

Repair was very easy. The videos for this repair on appliancepartspros.com say it all. After removing the top pannel and the front pannel that holds the door it's only a matter of taking out 2 screws to remove the drum support bearing and then replace with the new one.
