How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP3728341 / WD18X10026 Dishwasher Sump

Pulled dishwasher from the cabinet and flipped onto its side. Easy access to sump and drain flapper valve that I also replaced. Rubber sump coming apart into soft pills & chunks and plugging spray arms. Better now but it's rediculous that GE would make components that dissolve this way. 

Our GE was installed about 8 years ago and was AWESOME for much of its early life. However, progressively its cleaning ability diminished. By replacing all the spray arms (clogged with debris), filters, drain hose, and sump...this dishwasher cleans like it did when it was new! Cost was around $100 (also replaced a wheel and the silverware basket) and labor was relatively simple. And to think...my mother-in-law said, "Wouldn't it just be easier to buy a new one?!?". 

Replaced the inlet sump with the replacement part from Appliance Parts Pro that came with less than 1 day delivery (outstanding!). Just had to loosen the 3 clamps that tightened the connections of the sump to the sump pump, thermal sensor and water inlet line. Pulling the sump out of the bottom of the machine needed a bit stronger pull, but did work well. The new part did fit perfectly, only when attaching the large clamp one has to make sure the rubber edge tightens properly an all sides with the dish washer bottom. 

I replaced the upper and mid spray arms and bearings, removed filters and screens and cleaned everything. Pulled pump and replaced the connector and the collection sump. Repair took about 3 hours and went very smoothly thanks to the AppliancePros video! I'm on the east coast so I could not believe it when the parts arrived less than 24 hours after I placed the order! Prices were great too . . . I'm a customer for life and my dishwasher cleans the dishes like new now! 

I ordered the part plus I replaced all of the other rubber/plastic parts just in case. My dishwasher is ten years old and still works great. 

I thought the pump had failed, so I ordered one and a sump (in case it was deteriorating.) The installation was well documented in your video and aside from my case of a hard copper inlet line, all went well. My troubleshooting should have begun with the end of the discharge line: it was blocked. New pump, the sump will be returned unopened, and the dishwasher works. 

Replaced Impeller Seal Kit (that was also broken, though I did not see water leaking there), replaced Inlet Sump. Thick white coating of degraded rubber inside Sump. Seems that after 3 1/2 years all rubber seals in this dishwasher dissolved. Very disappointing. ApplicanceParts was very helpful in determining the correct parts (get both even if you think you only need one), and if you search around, you can find some videos showing how to do some of the repairs. 

Although that this is a 10 yrs old appliance, I decided to repair it as it is part of the entire set in the kitchen. I used the tips on the videos at AppliancePartsPros site and was easy to replace the parts and fix. Only the Inlet sump was leaking, but I decided to replace all parts that are made with similar material to avoid further problems. I was a good decision as the pump suction tube was showing signs of start leaking. I would suggest AppliancePartsPros make that kind of suggestion on the site. 

Second pair of hands helps for this model as the sump inlet is the only attachment, via a clamp- of the sump to the machine. Loosened clamps and removed inlet from machine and sump. Many pieces,large, small and sticky, of rubber inlet had to be removed from sump with tweezers and brush. Reinstalling is much easier by first reattaching the inlet to the sump and then to the machine. 

The dishwasher flooded the kitchen floor. Previously, there was a slow leak by the door, with the water soaking the door insulation. The pump connector had developed a hole. Thanks to Appliance Part Pros’ GREAT repair videos linked to the part description, I was able to replace the pump connector, and also the inlet sump. The inlet sump is made of the same material as the pump connect, and it was looking degraded. These were easy replacements after seeing the video. By removing the inlet sump, there was a lot of gunk I was able to clean out, especially around the impeller. The fine screen and the filter basket just can’t catch everything, especially over a 15 year period. I also made a second order to get a new door gasket and discharge hose. Again, the GREAT repair video showed how easy it was to replace the door gasket.
