How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP4438809 / WR60X10307 Evaporator Fan Motor Assembly

I replaced the Evaporator Fan Motor the brackets were rusty so I ordered them. 

Noted evaporator fan wasn't running. Verified that I had voltage coming to the fan at connector (~13VDC on both the red and yellow wires). I also used a 9V battery and confirmed that the old evaporator motor was NOT functional: Excerpt from the service manual: Motors can be run for short periods using a 9-volt battery. Connect the white wire to the negative (-) battery terminal only. Connect the red and yellow wires to the positive (+) battery terminal. Ordered the replacement part and once I got the new motor, I also verified it run with the same 9V battery test. Installed and the system is now operating properly! 

Troubleshoot circuit board to verify voltages. Tested thermistors for correct resistance.Checked heater circuit continuity. All above were eliminated as probable cause of failure. During day and a half of on/off troubleshooting, Evaporator fan was finally observed to “not” be running all the time compressor was on. voltage had measured ok when checked. It was a intermittent failing fan. Refrigerator running as it should. Worth the effort. 

Replaced evaporator fan motor and fan (although not necessary). Took a little bit of digging to get to... So far, so good. 

Replaced main board and evaporator fan. 

This repair (replaced motor and fan) was successful and the refrigerator is working well. The majority of the 2.5 hour repair was spent emptying the freezer and then piecing together the approach to accessing the evaporator motor -- my model refrigerator and the associated motor were slightly different than the ones in the videos paired with the fan motor blade and motor parts. I ended up using the video on how to replace the grommets on the motor to best reflect my situation and the parts used. Working methodically, taking phone pictures and keeping the various screws with the disassembled parts was important, since I took out quite a few parts to get to the evaporator fan, none of which were quite like those in the videos. Replacing the motor and fan itself was quite easy once I found a the video which showed how to access the specific parts I had purchased. For my model refrigerator, I needed a special star shaped screw driver head for the screws on the motor mount - I happened to have this as part of a multi-use tool, but have never used one before. For me, having the videos is important because, while handy, I don't know much about appliances.

Repair was easy but time consuming due to the need to disassemble and then reassemble the entire back of the freezer. Happy about being able to do the repair myself and I expect that I saved hundreds of dollars. Thanks! 

Removed the old one and installed the new one. 

The Evaporator fan above the coils in the freezer was not working. We watch the video and install the part as shown. Once we took all the plastic covers off (hardest part) the fan was very easy to replace. We will definitely use Appliance parts again! 

Got the new motherboard (instructions included, genuine OEM part) and evaporate fan in less than 3 days. Both were in own boxes in a bigger box. Got to work and replaced both. Cranked up the fridge a voila! Purring like a champ, and cooling better than it was before it broke. Followed YouTube videos to diagnose and repair. Word of advice: ensure the water tube going to the ice treat is in the trough before you leave it on overnight. I had my tube pushed back and woke up to the entire back wall covered in a sheet of ice.
