How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP6889136 / WH23X28418 Drain Pump

Replaced pump & control board. 

Disconnected water supply lines. Unplugged electric line. Lowered drain line to allow water to gravity drain into bucket. Tipped Washer on side to access bottom. Plugged back in and set cycle to drain/spin. Using voltmeter confirmed that pump was getting voltage during the spin/drain cycle. Unplugged power. Removed and examined pump. Disassembled coil and cleaned. Reassembled, reinstalled and repeated testing. Still getting voltage, but not pumping during Spin/Drain. Ordered new pump. Received it in 3 days. Installed new pump. Stood washer up and reconnected water and power and put drain line back into wall connection. Started washer cycle to fill and then put in spin/drain. New pump functioned properly and drained. 

We bought the new drain pump on Monday from this website, it was delivered promptly Tuesday evening. My husband replaced the part in less than 15 minutes. The washer now drains again. Thank you! 

Tilted washer backwards on an angle. Removed cover over pulleys and transmission. Noticed a lot of rubber debris. Noticed belt was slipping. Replaced belt and washer works perfectly. 

I installed the drain pump myself 

I went to Google University to troubleshoot my washer. I have that big ole code paper that came with my washer but it's a ridiculous process of navigating through dials and buttons and code numbers to figure out whatever your issue is. Initially, I changed the lid lock because I've had issues with that in the past but that didn't solve my problem. So further research pointed me to the Drain pump. I EASILY found the correct drain pump for my washer on AppliancePartsPros.com and they have an attached video on the product page that walked me through taking my old pump off and putting the new one on. SO EASY! I also paid NO extra shipping and the part was delivered to me in VT the next day. That's important when the laundry is piling up. This will be my first stop whenever I need a part for any appliance I own. Thank you for making it easy! 

Replaced the water drain pump. 

Emptied the water out with a shop vac. I pulled the drain pump off and made a pigtail to test pump plugged in to 110v pump was very noisy and impeller was bouncing around in housing ordered new pump came in a few days installed it and new belt. Washer works good now. 

Diagnostics indicated the drain pump failed, so I replaced it 

We removed and replaced the Drain Pump on the washer with a new one. Found that the old one had substantial mineral grit in it.
