How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP2059046 / WR2X7054 Push-On Nut

My 22-year old Hotpoint dishwasher (HDA2000Z01WH) has been leaking for several years. Finally getting tired of putting a towel under the machine every time I ran the dishwasher, I decided to repair it. Water was dripping from the area around the solenoid. I ordered the drain solenoid (WD21X802) since it was rusted out, the shaft seal (WD8X181) and push-on nut (WR2X7054). I watched the videos for replacing the solenoid assembly and replacing the shaft seal. Removing the shaft seal from the shaft was a little difficult. Not wanting to damage the shaft, I used the smallest flat head screw driver I could find to dig the shaft seal out. The push-on nut was very tight and took quite a bit of effort to push on. I did have to cut the original push-on nut to remove it. All other aspects of replacing the parts are relatively simple and easy. The repair took about 45 minutes from start to finish. Watching the videos several times prior to ordering the parts helped a lot in determining which parts were really necessary to purchase. 

There was a leak at the bottom of my GE monogram dishwasher. Watched all the videos related to leak at the bottom. Took a look at washer after watching all the related video and was able to quickly identify shaft seal was the problem. Ordered shaft seal and recommended Push-on nut. Found a free dishwasher on the side of the road. As expected, it had issues: It leaked! This website helped me diagnose the issues quickly: The corner seals on the tub had been removed entirely (why would anyone do that?), and the shaft seal was bad. I had a leak in the bottom of my dishwasher when the drain cycles would begin. It looked like the leak was coming from the solenoid assembly but after researching online, the leak likely originated from a bad drain shaft seal (I was very close to ordering a new solenoid assembly and glad I didn't). I know nothing about dishwashers but I'm moderately handy. After narrowing down the issue, I ordered the drain shaft seal and push-on nut hoping that would correct the leak. Easy fix. Watched video and it was simple. The big deal here is they sent me the parts that arrived on a Saturday at my office and were left at the front door by Fed Ex. The package was stolen by the time I arrived Monday. I emailed customer service and they sent me replacement parts at no cost. This was going above and beyond to satisfy me and make me happy. I would recommend Appliance Parts Pros to anyone who wants to repair their own appliances and be well taken care of if there is a problem. 

I ordered a new solenoid assembly and to be safe a new shaft seal and push on nut after confirming with customer service that those parts are likely to do the job (good customer service by the way). I received it very fast a couple of days later. I was able to replace all the parts without pulling out the dishwasher and just unscrewing the kick plate and working under the appliance. The instructional videos are very well made and it took me less than an hour to do the job and that’s with taking my time to make sure I was doing it right. Tested the appliance immediately after I was done and no more leak! Saved $$ and feel pretty good about myself so I’ll make sure to brag about it to all my friends. This is my second success story with AppliancePartsPros and I’m very happy with them (replaced a few parts in my old squeaky GE gas driers and they’ve been running like new since then)! 

Shaft seal.. 

I removed the entire drive/motor assembly from the machine. It probably isn't necessary but it's a pain cutting off the old push-on nut. Everything is well laid out in the video although they make the push ring parts look easy. To install it I used a vice grip to hold the pin and a crescent wrench to push the nut down the pin. Make sure the nut is facing the correct direction and push really hard. Fixing this without pulling out the dishwasher would be a huge pain but might be possible. Even if your machine is hardwired to electric it can still be DIY. Make sure to take your time disconnecting and reconnecting all water lines. I had a leak where the drive assembly attaches to the bottom of the tub. I was barely able to tighten it in place - make sure those clamp rings are snug or at least accessibly before testing. The gasket itself took about 10 minutes to put on. The disassembly and troubleshooting probably took 2+ hours. Most of that time spent tracing the leak while trying to force the dishwasher through all the cycles. I'll say 45-60 minutes from opening the bag to testing the dishwasher. From memory, I used 5/16 and 1/4 inch socket, and a Phillips screwdriver. Plus an adjustable wrench to remove the supply line. The video here helped tremendously and I'm more than happy to support a company that provides this service.
