How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP2020569 / WB13K21 Oven Bake Igniter

After receiving the new ignitor, I followed DIY video. Had to improvise/ adapt the tools I have. But in less than 40 minutes my oven was not only fixed but I cleaned it out as well. I was baking the moment the new ignitor was put in. 

To start, I removed the door which lifted off easily, then removed the plate in the oven which was in place with 2 screws, and removed the bottom drawer which lifted out once it was fully pulled out. Then I removed the two screws (one with pliers) which held the old igniter on and wiggled the plastic harness connector out of the hole in the back of the oven. Under the oven where the drawer used to be. Then I disconnected the plastic harness from the power source, being careful not to let it slip back through the hole. The new Oven Igniter fit perfectly and I threaded the harness through a crack in the back of the oven and then down underneath where I was able to reconnect the harness to the power source, then crammed it back through the hole where it is probably protected from the heat of the oven. One of the screws that held the igniter on was stripped when I finally got it off with pliers, but I got a slightly bigger screw from my vast but somewhat unorganized collection of random screws and tightened it down. When I tested the oven, it worked perfectly the first time and lit the burner much quicker. After taking this opportunity to clean up some ashes and burned pizza cheese from the bottom of the oven plate, I put all the pieces back in and this successful project was complete! 

Got up and had a cup of coffee while I got tools ready. I followed Simon's instruction video for all of the components. It was a great help. I did some "nook and cranny" cleaning as I went through the installation process. Always nice to have a clean stove. With the instructions and a couple of cups of coffee it was done in about an hour, with most of the time spent cleaning. 

I googled the problem, appliance parts pros showed up in the results, it seemed to easy, but they suggested the part that solved 74% of the same issue, and three days later I had the part. In the invoice there was an awesome YouTube video of someone fixing the problem and I fixed it in 25 minutes. Super easy, I’d use this website again. 

I watched the repair video and installed the new igniter in about 10 minutes. 

After thinking I was going to blow up every time I turned my oven on, because my oven door would literally blow open multiple times when turned on, my husband replaced the igniter. Who knew such a little thing would make such a HUGE difference! 

Very simple Google how to repair and to find the problem. 

I checked videos and blogs and figured it was one of 3 things: Temp Sensor, Oven Igniter, or the whole control board. I ordered the Temp sensor and Igniter but the Temp sensor was back ordered so just put in the igniter. Pretty easy install, and it now gets to temperature faster and holds it.

Friends on Facebook told me it must be the ignitor since it is a gas stove. Ordered the $32.50 part, watched the video, and repaired it! The oven was slightly different, so searched for more videos, but it was fixed in about an hour. Saved so much money not having to hire a repairman. So grateful for Facebook friends and this website!
